How do you hide a 48' tri?

That’s what I’m wondering... 48ft is hard enough but then add on a 20+ft beam - that’s a lot of boat!

The 12 ton is a volume measurement used when a boat is documented etc.... not weight.

The tri in question looks like a Kismet which were Nicol takeoffs with different amas by a Canadian "designer". The 37 was based on the Wanderer, the most popular Kismet was the 32, roughly an Islander.

A rare find that appears to be in great shape at a very affordable price. I personally love these cats.

You should buy it. I don't know anyone who owns three cats! (Divorce would be expensive.)

Having owned a Cherokee 35 we are huge fans of the Sailcraft Catamaran’s and believe it or not, I have the perfect wife as she would probably say ok! So it’s tempting.........
But as of right now the plan is to sell one of our catamarans.......a really hard decision as we love both. And then build my wife a beach house that we keep more than 2 years:-).

I almost bought a Commanche 32 instead of what I have now. A well taken care of is a good and reasonably quick cruiser without topple-overness of the older MK 1 Iroquoi. Due to the layout, stern extensions can be added too.

All that varnished wood is far to dark and old fashioned for my liking though.

Weird location of one of the engines, one in the transom and one in a pod? Lots of woods that could be painted over

The Ruddy Choy one in Jacksonville could be a steal for a handy person

No doubt, check them both out and see which one tickles your fancy

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Even the Comanche is too narrow. General rule of thumb for cats to prevent avoidable sideways capsize is about 2:1, length to beam. So a 32' cat should be 16' beam. This is 13' 9".
Not as bad as some, but still potentially tippy.

The Rudy Choy cat in FLA has been advertised for awhile. It's clearly had an 'owner-bodged' roof raise, where the extra height was added in on the same angle as the original cabin sides, and then the original deckhead/lid put back on, which is why it looks so odd. You can see the new unfinished ply in the interior shots.
I'd be wary of this boat. Owner is clearly only a 'handyman' so God-alone knows what other bodges have been inflicted on it. Plus no main sail. So add $5K to the price for that, and imagine the other sails might need replacing as well, so more like $12K, and so at $25K (and still needing more finsihing in the interior) it's starting to look expensive against the clearly much better looked after Comanche.

The CSK boat would be 'nice' to own, but not in this butchered shape, and not at that price.

YMMV

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

And the Prout 37 Snowgoose have millions of safe blue water miles sailed and only have a 15’ beam.
Back in those days I believe they considered closer to 2:1 lwl to beam, but of course the cats back then seemed to have lower centers of gravity and lower centers of effort.

See an earlier post 3-4 pages back on this one. I was really keen on it but another forum user viewed it and gave it the thumbs down. It’d be a big project - not not-doable - but a big project.
