What did you think about fixing the deck? How would you do it? Not that I'm going to, fortunately I can afford a better boat, but would you tear off the whole deck? or do something else? One person I talked to suggested putting a nice piece of wood in the amas on the ceiling and supporting the deck that way. Would that work?
Nope, none of us. We wouldn't let our friend offer that amount.

Yes, some marine ply will probably be needed or some high tech ($) support materials.
To stay in the budget I mention that wuld mean wood. However, now you are adding more weight vs builder spec, for an already low underwing clearance cat.
Sellers have to understand boats are not, probably never will, fetch what they would today if we still had a pre-2008 economy. Unless well maintained and ready to cruise or very close, expect a lot less - it is too much risk otherwise (unknown budgets for a depreciating asset). The very few who have enough home equity (or stock/401k) to cash out enough to buy a boat are still often too skiddish from 08.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

I think that boat will sit there for quite a while, until the owners realize that they aren't going to get much for that boat. It's still listed so I guess the $18,000 offer wasn't upped, at least not enough for the sellers. With the repair cost that you guys figured, it's not worth anything, they might as well give it away.

From what I saw sitting in the broker's office and reading the 'sold list'. The monohulls were going for about half of asking price.

The other cats that are listed there, the PDQ is a very tired boat and has water dripping out of one of the amas. The other Gemini that was pulled off the list, has significant damage from the hurricane and who knows what else, it is an old boat too. That's all there was for Catamarans when I was there. I'm thinking I may have to go to California to get what I want. Is your friend considering monohulls? From what I saw, that's your best bang for buck. But I've got my heart set on a catamaran.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

I agree with what you are saying. However, some brokers fudge those number. Research it and you will see what I mean.
But in a nutshell, we think MX is still the best place to buy a boat for the least amount of bucks. However, newbs (why my friend was in SC, for a delivery for a newb) get fixed on list price, sometimes not including the higher costs of parts (and extra yard time while you wait on them!) and cost for delivery home. If I were you I would lool for some cats in Canada, last I checked 1:1.35. Plus, you will most likely have a diesel heater as standard.
I do have an in on a 105m (electric) that could be bought.

I would honestly be very tempted were I in the keys still. The iroquois Facebook group is very active, if anyone is interested, with one member having just done a full gut interior restore and a few others having just done the dagger and rudder work mentioned. If you were looking for a project, you'd likely have the technical resources from that group.

Nope, I'm on my last catamaran:-). Having owned the larger sister to the Iroquois, a Cherokee, I can really appreciate the positive aspects of the Iroquois. We will be back in Marathon tomorrow, so if some one is interested I could take a look at it for them.

I would like you to take a look at it if you have the time. A great price and maybe a pretty solid boat underneath the first appearances. Is it sail able? Solid hull? What kind of cost to fix her up?

I'm sure I've said the last catamaran for the last few, but this time I'm serious! I could be persuaded to buy a fero cat as it would be the best of both worlds. It could flip like a cat, but once flipped it could sink like a mono!
