I guess all catamarans aren't created equal! The Gemini is solid glass so there's no doubt I could see it lacking the floatation needed to stay afloat.

From the interior damage, it surely looks as if she sank. Ugh!

Hard to tell from the photo, but if the name is Catitude, that boat used to belong to a neighbor of mine.
He lived at the South end of my canal on Whidbey Island.
They sailed to Guatemala, built a casa and sold the boat.

And as for making a tri out of 3 boats...well... in SMALLER sizes its really not THAT unreasonable. Plenty of tri's under 23 feet built with beach cats (hobie 16/18/etc) as amas. Although you are better off building your own main hull. Newick Tremolino comes to mind, as the most common. With the right centerboard or daggerboard boat as a main hull, and catamaran hulls as the "outriggers" it won't really be all that bad to sail. Most but not all monohull hull shapes are not good for tri's, too beamy, etc etc. But the point is valid that you're better off going with a known multihull design, both in resale value and for practical reasons. It sounds like you're looking for a shortcut and there are plenty of used boats that will get you on the water faster. You will spend as much money and time as building a full trimaran...and probably end up with something sub par, unfinished, that no one else will even be willing to haul away for free..

purvisgs, Thanks for the reply. I was never going to build a tri out of 3 monos, I was just curious... Thanks for the information... Of course buying a project Cat or Tri will be cheaper and less work...

I think it was Don Aronow, the creator of the Cigarette go-fast boats, who basically cut one in half and made a cat of it. It was sold to the Feds so they could catch drug smugglers in go-fasts.
Unfortunately it was too slow, or so I was told.

I emailed the seller telling him that I am ready to jump in my truck and come pick that boat up. He (she?) has not responded.
Looks like a great project for $10.
