Here's a Dufour 35 on EBay, being auctioned off by a boatyard in Middle River, Maryland, that repo'd it. It's at $4300 with 3 days left to go. It seems well equipped for cruising, and mostly needs some clean-up to be ready to go again.

BEAUTIFUL FRENCH LUXURY CRUISER-BlueWater Capable Racer Cruiser-PERFECT 4 COUPLE

Excerpt from the EBay listing:
>

This has a full equipment package for global cruising including:

Radar with Radar Console and GPS Chart Plotter

Auto-Pilot

Short Wave Radio

VHF Marine Radio

EPIRB Offshore Emergency Locator Beacon

Roller Furling Genoa

Good Quality Used Sails

Anchor holster and heavy duty windlass with long rode and chain

Oversized Traveler and Main-sheet Block and Tackle

All lines run to cockpit with jam cleats for easy single handed sailing

Spinnaker Pole

Stainless Steel BBQ Grille

Tensioning Back Stay

Propane system with Coast Guard Certified Shut Off

Fire Extinguishers

DETAILS of TRANSACTION - Previous owner fell on hard times and wasn't able to pay boat storage while traveling over-seas. Boat was gifted to the Marina in exchange for past due slip fees. Marina has a clear title which will be presented to the new owner once arrangements are made to either launch the boat or move it by truck and trailer. If the boat is going to stay in Maryland you will need to pay Maryland sales tax on the transaction. You may continue to keep the boat in dry storage at its current location if you wish. Storage costs are approximately $350 per month to keep it through November, and aprox $230 per month in advance if you want to keep it there through the entire winter.

CONDITION - This boat does need a few weekends of work getting it ready to sail again. Tasks include things like sanding and varnish, cleaning mildew off the cast fiberglass headliner (wipes off with a rag and Greenworks cleanser to reveal a shiny white surface), re-attaching hinges on port hamper lid, recharging or replacing batteries, fresh diesel fuel, cleaning lines, greasing blocks, bottom paint, topsides waxing and or re-painting. There are several cushions missing which previous owner had put in storage for the winter and then didn't pay rent on his storage locker and lost the cushions along with his other stuff in storage. Vessel is Sold As Is. All mechanical systems were known to be working fine when the boat was last used in 2011. It stays very dry inside and motor is winterized so I don't expect you will have any issues, but electronics and other components can sometimes give out even when just sitting idle for several years. If you want to test that everything works before bidding, bring a freshly charged battery and call me to arrange a boat tour. William 970 319-4361

I was on this boat 3 months ago when the yard sold it to the current flipper who's selling it. He got it for $3600 then. It had water up to the cabin sole that was frozen on top. My moisture meter pinged at all the keel bolts, as well as about a dozen places on deck. The rudder is completely wet. Every thru hull and seacock needs replacing. The only engine hour gauge I could find showed 5000+ hours, but, don't know if that was for the original volvo or the yanmar repower. Etc. etc. etc. I thought it was a good $2000 project if you had about $15k and 9 months to work full time on it to get you a $25k boat... unless it needs a repower.

Buyer beware.

SWAMPTHING,

Thanks for posting what you saw in the Dufour, and the informative video too.

Thanks, Swampthing! Glad to have your eyewitness report. And a good reminder that bargain boats are rarely bargains. . . .

Here is an Alberg "Oddesy" 30 ft that looks like a hell of a deal for someone looking for a single hander. Needs an engine, and some updates, but overall super. I checked back a bit on the history and it looks like it has been shown a lot of love over the years. Hell the 2013 Harken roller and sail is worth the asking price alone.

If I could find a way to get it home to Northern Vt from Long Island for cheap, I would grab it and figure the engine out later. For me, the 3K+ transport is a deal breaker at this time. Should be a good boat for someone in the NewYork, Ct or RI area.

Solid glass deck, so no core issues. Yes, a new diesel would be 15 to 20K but I have seen a few of this converted to 10HP outboards with reasonable results.

Wow, wish I could do that deal! How would an outboard work short term?

You can buy a small used diesel for about the same price as a new outboard. Nice boat.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

I've seen people use the stern lazzerette as an outboard well. They mount an extra long-shaft there on a tilt-up.
http://atomvoyages.com/gallery/video...neinstall.html Here is video that shows one way to go. Looks OK, but you would still have some issues with gasoline storage etc. I also saw a site where a gentleman mounted a small 4HP engine up on the forward port side temporarily, but that would have lots of issues and not be any sort of real solution. Might be OK while you were working out something better.
