Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

https://ventura.craigslist.org/boa/6174053104.html

This is a great little boat that my friend Victor is selling. He regularly kept the boat up and even added an a4 inboard...which now seems to have stopped working, surprise, surprise. Anyway I have a bit of sentimentality tied to this one since I met Vic on Craigslist and basically taught him to sail on this thing. He then surpassed me in skill and bravery and is looking to circumnavigate. Pretty cool.

Buy this boat! It is located in a slip on Oxnard which I think can be had cheap.

I saw a Cape Dory 26 for sale. The asking price was $5000. It's a solid boat for that price. Needed a little cosmetic work.

Flicka 20

_______________

Steady's Notes:

This is a nice looking Flicka 20. I like everything I see about it.
Looking at these photos, it really gives the impression of a much larger boat.
I like the canvas shown on her too.
The interior looks like it is in very good condition.

I sure hope to go sailing on one of these Flickas some day!

My Disclaimers and Requests:

I have no financial or other connection to this boat or the seller.
I have not seen this boat in person, nor have I sailed on it.
As with any boat, it is a good idea to research the design to learn about how they sail, common problems and owner opinions.
As with any boat, it is smart to have a qualified yacht surveyor perform a survey of the boat to assess its condition.
I am posting this to help others find boats. This one caught my eye, and I hope this thread helps others find a good fit for them.
I hope this thread proves helpful to CF Members. If so, let me know, as it is nice to know the time spent on it has helped others.
IF you purchase this boat, let me know (a PM would be OK).
IF you purchase this boat, I would enjoy seeing it, or going for a sail on it, if I am ever in your area. Or, if you own a similar or sister boat send me a PM. I enjoy sailing on a wide variety of boats and would like to get some time on many designs, including this one.
Good luck on your own boat hunt.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

Steel Roberts 36 ketch on the great lakes (Lake Huron, NW of Toronto Canada)!
Price is $30k canadian, asking (whats that USD, like $24,000 USD?)

Sailboat for sale | sailboats | Kitchener / Waterloo | Kijiji

Not much info in the ad:
Ketch rigged motor sailor, Ocean going, steel construction.Custom build, fully equipped for long distance cruising. Reason for selling is health.

Lake Huron has easy access to Lake Erie and the Erie canal to the US east coast. Fresh water means this steel boat is likely in above average condition.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

There is another one, priced at 15k on the US market (Texas?).

I like Nic 35 a lot. Small boat but great layout and so sensible in the seaway and at anchor.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

not sure if this thread is alive still but here she goes :-)
i'm selling off a 50' Beneteau 1985, German flagged, currently sitting at a dock in Cartagena, Colombia.

Boat is in reasonable state but will for sure need a good deal of work done !

if this thread yields interest i'll reply with a complete list of known to-do's

Priced at 28k usd

Older Beneteau (1985) but with New 85 HP Yanmar Diesel (2011) runs good.
needs some TLC, but a nice and comfortable boat to move around in.
Boat was hauled out last year and inspected for blistering, none found. new antifouling paint was applied and boat was splashed again.
been sitting in marina since.
it has a VHF radio but that's pretty much it. the GPS plotter got fried by saltwater and other then that it has a Raymarine autopilot which I haven't gotten to work yet (tried to get the pump fixed here in Colombia but probably better off just getting a new one)
It has an 110v AirConditioning unit, the fridge is runs on 110v only so a charger / inverter is recommended but not on board.
The floorboards are tired and several hatches don't close properly anymore.
the vertical windows are leaky and need to be re-sealed.
because of the leaky vertical windows some cabin paneling may need to be replaced or removed (moldy)
The vessel has one mainsail stored in a cabin down below that looks reasonable, I checked stitches visible and couldn't rub the threads out yet. maybe different in other spots so assume it needs some restitching.
4 headsails in the front, one of which I know is shredded, the other three seem to be in working condition.
The running rig has been unused in the sun for over two years now, so assume it needs replacing.
The standing rig was visually inspected where I could reach. some superficial rust spots are there but it has no loose strands as of yet. see pictures. inspection is recommended by professional rigger or knowledgeable buyer.
Ruddercables were found badly corroded from not being used / maintained, will be replaced with new cables prior to sale by current owner.
Engine was just now serviced, all new fluids and filters. Bottom cleaned by diver as well.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

TO LIFEMILES: I see you are new to CF.

Howdy! Welcome aboard CF!

Yes, this thread is very much alive, and will continue sailing on.

What follows is also written in a friendly tone of voice and added with the sole intent to help you and others here.

That is a big boat. Are you the owner? Or selling it for someone?

A few suggestions, intended to help you and others here:

Whenever anyone posts about a boat, please try to…

1. Post a plan or drawing of the layout.
2. indicate how many heads, how many berths, how many "cabins" if that is not already known from a particular set of photos or specific model. Bigger boats can have more options for berthing.
3. Post a photo showing the saloon from the companionway looking forward to the forward bulkhead. Show the living "space" of the saloon.
4. Post a photo of the engine, and a photo of the galley.
_____________

Since you have a boat for sale, here is a link to the other forum on this site where Classified Ads for Boats for Sale (by owner) are listed. If I were you I would add your boat to that "sub-forum" too.

Good.

Another few suggestions:

1. First put together your ad content (description, specs, and photos) OFF the forum.

TIP: Since you are the owner, I would include some description of how long you owned the boat, how it sails, and anything else you experienced with it.

2. Post the AD in the Classifieds forum here on CF. When you post, make sure you pick a good "Title" because you cannot edit or change that later. Proof read it carefully. I would include an asking price if it is low.

3. When you do post your ad, make sure you have edited it before (I use a simple text editor) because if it contains a lot of material and writing, you don't want to "lose it" if the forum software "times out" on you. This happens to people who are writing long posts, or if they pause while writing, and it can cause a person to lose all of their writing or work on a post. I suggest you write the text in an text editor OFF the forum, then proof read it, then COPY/Paste that text into your post here on CF. I learned my lesson the hard and frustrating way, by losing several long posts I was composing on the forum. They disappeared. It happens.

When I post, I always use the "GO ADVANCED" button for formatting my posts. It also allows you to post more photos (up to a total of 12 photos in a single post, by uploading 6 photos at a time).

4. CAUTION: Once you post your text block, you will only be able to edit it for a few minutes on the forum AFTER you post it and then you cannot go back to edit the Original Post (OP). You can add more comments below it, but will not be able to change things up top, except for a few minutes (about 5 minutes).

5. You should provide a suggestion on how to contact you. Also, be aware that new members at CF often have difficulty receiving Private Messages, and that sometimes their PM boxes may fill rapidly.

6. Once you have posted the AD on the Classifieds forum, copy that link to that ad (from your browser) and then come back to THIS thread and post the link to the AD in a new post in THIS thread. Refer people to the AD. Keep the details on the AD. You want most of the discussion to be in your AD post in the Classifieds forum, since you are selling your own boat.

I hope these tips help you and others.

I will send you (and to others on request) some more tips in a Private Message in a few minutes.

Here is some excerpts from that Tayana 37 ad:

"REVERSE AUCTION! A great boat that needs some TLC and I don't have the time to do it. Tayanas down south are selling for $60,000+. A bargain for the right buyer who is willing to do some work.

Full keel, cutter rigged sailboat. Well-equipped for cruising or a very comfortable liveaboard. Beautiful teak interior with many wonderful details through-out. We love the boat, but, have not used her much for the past 10 years. See her at Harris Harbor Transient Float (toward the UAS Marine TEC building).

The engine runs well, and the deck appears to be sound. We've had divers change the zincs regularly (including last summer) and they have reported no problems with the hull. Includes Zodiac 6-person coastal life raft in a hard case and 2.5 hp Yamaha 4-stroke outboard.

ASKING PRICE = $28,000

Starting 6/17 at noon, the price will be DROPPED $2,000 / DAY!
As-is, no survey.
Serious inquiries only, please."

I have used the reverse auction method to sell my last three boats. It has worked very well, and all were sold within a few weeks. However, they were smaller, less expensive boats, so the price drop was usually $1000 per week.

I like the method because it generates a ton of interest. There are people who will watch and wait, and as the price drops the interest grows.

I learned the hard way it's not worth paying for an additional winter on the hard for the sake of a thousand dollars which might be the difference between making a sale and not.

It also provides an opportunity to sell at a high price. I started my reverse auctions slightly higher than what I though was market value. Not only does this give the (correct) impression of the true value of the boat, but it also creates the possibility of selling for a high price. When you just pick a price and sit on it, you really never know.

When you really want to sell your boat, the reverse auction is an excellent method that I've been recommending for years. Like all boat sales, getting lots of exposure is important...good ads and lots of them.
