Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
The Odyssey has been in charter. That's something that should be conveyed to a buyer's surveyor. Heck of a nice boat. I'd buy it if I could get it home.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
In case anyone missed it, here is a great ol' boat to check on in our classifieds that seems like a bargain to me:

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
While just browsing Yachtworld I found this:
1986 Folkes 39 Sail Boat For Sale - www.yachtworld.com
I have no idea what kind of boat this is (quality of build, etc). It does sound to cheap to be good, but as the saying goes; there is a boat for everyone. This might be an interesting live aboard option for someone.

Thanks for adding that to the mix.
I seem to recall seeing that same boat listed about 1-2 years ago. It may have been on the market for over a year, unsold. Not sure, but that is what I suspect.
I do like what I see in the photos. The interior looks very nicely finished (with wood) for a steel boat. It looks much nicer than many other steel boats I have seen.
I encourage folks to post photos when possible. I will post some of that boat so others can see it here on CF.

FYI: The yachtworld ad description does indicate it is steel, in the "hull material" field.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
I just looked at the Litton 41 for sale on PopYachts located in Stuart, Fl. Its a Robert Perry design reported to be a Valiant 40 with a squared off transom. They are asking 30k. The boat has soft decks here and there, no staysail or genoa, and the main is old and tired (in my mind - useless) . Perkins has a lot of exterior rust but is said to run well and the boat recently motored there from Miami. Has a v drive with evidence of leakage. Good rigging, great galley, needs paint and varnish everywhere. The good however:
As much as their is little to be found out about this particular model, i have discovered that this is a twin of the Aloha 41. Therefore no Uniflite resin worries and the model promises to be a first class world cruiser after a refit. I refuse to refit another boat and am looking elsewhere, but I believe this boat could be had for little money (15k?).

DETAILS of TRANSACTION - Previous owner fell on hard times and wasn't able to pay boat storage while traveling over-seas. Boat was gifted to the Marina in exchange for past due slip fees. Marina has a clear title which will be presented to the new owner once arrangements are made to either launch the boat or move it by truck and trailer. If the boat is going to stay in Maryland you will need to pay Maryland sales tax on the transaction. You may continue to keep the boat in dry storage at its current location if you wish. Storage costs are approximately $350 per month to keep it through November, and aprox $230 per month in advance if you want to keep it there through the entire winter.
CONDITION - This boat does need a few weekends of work getting it ready to sail again. Tasks include things like sanding and varnish, cleaning mildew off the cast fiberglass headliner (wipes off with a rag and Greenworks cleanser to reveal a shiny white surface), re-attaching hinges on port hamper lid, recharging or replacing batteries, fresh diesel fuel, cleaning lines, greasing blocks, bottom paint, topsides waxing and or re-painting. There are several cushions missing which previous owner had put in storage for the winter and then didn't pay rent on his storage locker and lost the cushions along with his other stuff in storage. Vessel is Sold As Is. All mechanical systems were known to be working fine when the boat was last used in 2011. It stays very dry inside and motor is winterized so I don't expect you will have any issues, but electronics and other components can sometimes give out even when just sitting idle for several years. If you want to test that everything works before bidding, bring a freshly charged battery and call me to arrange a boat tour. William 970 319-4361

I suspect that owner does not REALLY want to sell that boat, because there is so little information and only ONE photo of the boat on the sale ad.
I like the design.

Boats like that become part of the family. Hard to part with even when it's necessary.
