Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
The way I read it was fiberglass over wood. Wouldn't be my first choice.

Just curious, what are people's overall impression of Cheoy Lees? I had it that they were pretty decent cruisers but Cruising World put out a list of the best cruising sailboats a number of years ago and they weren't included on the list.

Ya gotta be careful on the forum when critiquing a boat someone might own. Having said that the wood spars are problematic. The sometime fiberglass over plywood as decking is a problem. I other words some Cheoy Lees decks were not encapsulated. The plywood was the ceiling inside. Some of the newer C/L's that had cord decks could be problematic. There is a fairly long list.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
Constructive criticism should always be welcomed provided it reflects the true state or condition of the vessels. It prevents future buyers from making serious mistakes. And also keeps the prices of certain models commensurate with their true condition and not with hoopla surrounding legacy brand names. It also provides the current owners the roadmap to making necessary repairs or improvements.

1981 Havis 33 Bluewater Cruser - $12,000 (Everett)
Your guess is as good as mine as to what Taiwan factory this came from.

This is delusional thinking. In a year, the boat will be a year older, he'll be a year older, he'll have spent more time and money, and then expect to get any of that back?

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
Delusional thinking starts when the seller is asking $20k for a project boat which in a Bristol shape would command $40-50k at the most. Most likely way lower.
