Looks good on the outside, the devil is in the details you can't see: Age/condition of rigging, engine will need to be checked thoroughly - no mention of hours or rebuilds, sails are "older," prop/shaft/stuffing box/transmission need checking... would be a start. Find a good local surveyor.

It's in Milltown Marina

After my wife saw this picture, I had to completely re-work our "short list".

Apparently having two separate and permanent double births became very important to her and my daughter, after they found out it was possible. The prospect of switching the dinning room into a bedroom and back daily lost it's luster.

Having owned a HR 35 Rasmus, I can tell you that the aft cabin is tiny by comparison to today's center-cockpit boats. Might be ok for your daughter.

Posting after the fact but want to let folks know that this thread was a HUGE help in finding a great deal on a boat.

Here is one of the still active listings for the 2001 Beneteau 361 that was purchased comfortably under $30K.

Had no idea if the engine even worked and had to buy sight unseen without a survey. The risk paid off as the Yanmar diesel only has 300 hours on it and starts/runs great. The interior cabin is in fantastic shape. Came with a furling jib and mainsail, dinghy davits and yes I got a zodiac dinghy with 4 stroke outboard.

The cockpit gelcoat is a disaster, which of course destroyed its sale value. Will be doing that as well as a full hull repaint over the winter.

The boat can be sailed and after fixing the condensate valve, the air conditioning works great.

The only gotcha is the rudder. The upper Delron bushing is probably bad, requiring the rudder be dropped and a custom bushing fabricated. Tides Marine does not have this part and the hull number is pre-Beneteau stocked parts.

Again, you never know what can turn up, so keep at it. There are deals to be had.

Luckily, the boat had an odd name (which is going to change) so was able to search on it, finding a for sale ad from 2018. Then started calling Marinas to see where it was located. Hit pay dirt on the second call, actually speaking to the head of maintenance who had maintained the boat since 2002. On their word (they weren't selling it) was a lot more comfortable with the no survey sight unseen offer.

When I got a verbal okay on the offer, FedEx'd a cashiers check to the broker. The next day the sellers tried to have another prospect look at the boat to get another offer. I sent a picture of the check and FedEx label to the broker, explaining he had cash on the barrel that day and the offer was void at 5pm EST. Gambled that the other 'buyer' would be heading to to the Marina after work, so would be after 5pm. FedEx dropped off the check about 15 minutes after I spoke to the broker.

The broker strong armed the seller to sign (bird in the hand situation).

The whole way down to actually look at the boat, I was thinking what the heck had I just done? This was waaaaay too good to be true. There had to be a catch.

That you currently know about. I would be thinking about checking/replacing the 19 year old rigging so I could sail without worry.

What a great find! And excellent negotiation skills...!

Yeah, cosmetic issues are generally "easy" to repair. If you've honed your boat painting skills on a couple of other boats, you are going to be very happy with the result. It's hard work, but rewarding, I found.

We did a full reno on our boat, which had been badly neglected, it's worth more than we paid for it, but...it's not for sale!

Please show us your "before" and "after" pictures in a year or so. (That's the only regret I had about our work on our boat - not enough pictures!)

Main thing is: engine, sails, canvas, hull, interior are good.

19 year-old rigging is a "get around to it task" probably. Take the mast down and take stock. 40 year old rigging would probably more urgently need action.

Air conditioning! Poor you!

Found this on craigslist, though sailboatdata doesn't have a 36ft. I'm guessing its actually the 34. I'm really in love with these salty boats (yeah I know its a problem). I might be able to check this one out this weekend. Seems like a pretty slick deal, but I hot glued my rose-color glasses on so its hard to tell.
