I run across things like this all the time. The mentality that if it works, and yes this will actually work, why am I making such a big fuss about it, especially when the owner has figured out a way to save some money and a friend he met at the Tiki hut does the same thing and has never ever had a problem with his.

Not only a screw into the cable but uses solid core wire and a wire nut and connects the RED to a BLACK wire.
