Hi Tellie, Merry Christmas. When you have a minute, I would appreciate some advice please.

We have a Spectra 340z that was working fine (mostly) until 2 days ago. Went to make water and unit couldn't get enough for the clark pump to stroke. Cleaned and cleared seacock and sea strainer. Filters are new. Unit ran and made water for about 3 hours, then you can hear the Vang strain to pull water. The feed pressure would drop from 98 and eventually the clark pump would not stroke.

Rechecked the sea strainer and restarted the unit. No Change.

    Details from today:
Changed all filters again, including charcoal.
    0945 95psi on monitor & gauge. 221ppm
    1025 85 on gauge. 95 on Monitor, 210ppm
    1100 88 stroking 94 on gauge. 94 on monitor. 210ppm
1135 80 stroking 85ish on gauge. 94 on monitor. 227ppm. Vang is growling (low tone) & it is very hot
1210 70 barely stroking 74 on gauge. 94 on monitor. 264ppm. Shut it down.

    Appreciate any insights - Thanks!

Hi Tellie, a bit of advice would be appreciated. Spectra Ventura 150, asymmetrical flow when running for a while, seems ok on start up but gets worse when running for a few hours. Feed pump recently replaced, production TDS and rate good on start up. Could it just be check valves need cleaning? Many thanks Warwick

Hi Tellie - My watermaker membrane has been fouled with diesel. Is there a way to recover the membrane or am I looking at a very expensive replacement. The membrane is from a Katadyn 80E (dual membranes required) and the cost from the OEM is OMG. Any alternates available in the aftermarket?

I read your reply to the guy with a 380C for sale for parts. We also have a 380C. We just started an attempt to put into service and found we have a non functioning stroke sensor. So, no electronic parts avaiable equals you have my attention. Where can I go to find parts and instructions to convert to a Cape Horn Extreme 330?

Tellie, I have a boat in the Pacific Northwest that I hope to take south in the fall. I am looking for a good used manual Spectra watermaker in the 400 g/day range. Are they ever available, or do I bite the bullet and buy new? ~ Erik Dolson

Hi Tellie, CF forum members sing your praises as the Spectra Guru, so I thought I would reach out with a problem I'm stuck with. I have a Spectra Santa Cruz model that was recently professionally reconditioned (new membrane and pumps, rebuilt Clark, etc. and I can't get the pickling/cleaning procedure to work because it won't suck anything from the bucket. It worked before, and I've checked all the valves, etc and can't find anything wrong. I even tried work-arounds, such as bypassing the service valve and no joy. No leaks, good pressure. Any ideas?

Hi Tellie - I saw your posts about Spectra watermakers. I will be buying one soon. How do you determine which watermaker is right for a client? We have a 2010 Leopard 46, purchased last month. We will mostly be two people live-aboard for 6 to 8 months each year, cruising the So Pacific. May have up to 4 guests occasionally. We have a 9kw generator and will be getting at least 1200 watts of solar. We are in San Diego now.
    thanks

Tellie, I'm on a boat in Hollywood Marina. Do you do repairs on Spectra? My boat has one which didn't work when I bought the boat. I am interested in getting it working.
