Re: WeatherFax ...
Mike,
Perhaps the green icons are coming from old test installations in your setup, including Import Plugins. In windows I have found that I need to clean out the deadwood sometimes and basically get back to a virgin setup with regard to tarballs etc.
- C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN 5.2.0+4d956e1\plugins - only 5 external plugins.
- C:\ProgramData\opencpn\plugins\cache\tarballs - clean it out.
- Also the new location for installation of plugins:
- using %localappdata% (C:\Users\Rick\AppData\Local)
- %localappdata%\opencpn\plugins = C:\Users\Rick\AppData\Local\opencpn\plugins
- I normally just look at the current plugins being used, but sometimes I clear it out entirely if I am having icon issues. Then download a fresh master catalog and install what I want.
I suppose ubuntu has similar directories.
While on the subject of icons, I have been updating the icons.h and icons.cpp folders to work with svg files but I have not mastered this aspect entirely. Some of the icons for weatherfax and findit for example are screwed up or don't switch and don't look like they are svg. What do you think I am missing? I guess I'll check out your plugins.
I could use some training on how to handle undefined references, as that is holding up several plugins.
I had given up on this and moved on.

Re: WeatherFax ...
So I am trying to load a chart via .JPEG or .PNG format into OpenCPN with the Weatherfax plug in and nothing shows up. I have tried multiple times on two different computers and no luck.
The reason for doing this is that I have TR type charts and they are not available in Raster format.
Thanks for your help !

Re: WeatherFax ...
You need to use the weatherfax "image wizard" which sets two lat/long corners and uses projection type settings to convert your jpeg for overlay on the charts. You need those coordinates to be location and labeled properly on the original Jpeg.
You should read the manual first. I think you should find a better set of charts, using O-charts if need be. Weatherfax is not intended for this job. Maybe 1-5 charts but not a whole set.

Re: WeatherFax ...
Thanks for the reply. I will follow that path.
If anyone has a raster version of 12354TR, 13205TR and 12221TR would be very, very appreciative.

Re: WeatherFax ...
Weather fax handles raster files, what specifically is your problem? Please describe with screenshots error logs from opencpn.log or step by step description.
Thanks

Re: WeatherFax ...
Thanks so starpath navigation has this video that I followed. I have tried bringing in .bmp, jpg and .png formats. After I select the file to import nothing happens.

Re: WeatherFax ...
OK I am going to try it tonight. What OS are you using? What is the wx route version number? How was it installed?

Re: WeatherFax ...
Do you have to use the TR (Training?) version of those charts? The "for navigation" electronic versions of these charts are freely available / downloadable. And OpenCPN does have them in the RNC chart catalog, ready for download..

Fair enough! Can you post one of the files here (attachement, if too big rename the file extension to something that allows larger attachments).
Or send me a PM and I send you back my email address.
I would like to try it out here, since I am using the weatherfax plugin (more for weather overlay, but still... I have no issue opening an image file)

Re: WeatherFax ...
I didn't know you can get those too... thanks!
I think file-size vs PC capabilities is your problem. I did manage to use the weatherfax plugin to create a 1210TR.kap. The 19MB jpg became a 39MB kap file. And my reasonably powerful laptop with 16GB ram became almost unusable during the calibration. ( I am on Linux, but that shouldn't make much difference)
Plus the chart seems a bit skewed. I did a NW and SE corner calibration and the OpenCPN overlayed lat/lon seems to match there, but it does not in the SW and NE corners. I am not sure a 2 point calibration is useful for your purpose... There are other calibration tools that allow more points than two and would correct for the skew.
To see yourself, you could resize the jpg to 50% each side, or even 25% which will make the filesize much smaller, but will look grainy once you zoom in. The pics below are supposed to show the skew in the SW corner vs the corners used for calibration.
