Sat2Chart
I'm starting this new thread for anything to do with the Sat2Chart program. Here you can post problems, suggestions, and hints on using Sat2Chart.
Sat2Chart can create charts in mbtiles, kap and kml format from Google earth, SasPlanet, Geo-Referenced images and OpenCPN.
The newest version is
Sat2Chart.V9.0.4.0
Here is the link to download it:
http://gdayii.ca/Downloads/Sat2Chart.V9.0.4.0.exe

I downloaded and installed a couple of days ago and have been playing around with it, i have a couple of questions-
What is the difference between a kap and an mbtile when on a single zoom level?
Does it install a plugin into opencpn? if so i can't find it,or am i mistaken and it's completely standalone?
There are some large libraries of kap charts on various users websites, are you aware of any libraries of mbtiles?
Regards,
Martin

Re: Sat2Chart
Martin,
Kap charts can only contain 127 colors while mbtiles charts can contain thousands of colors which make them ideal for satellite charts where its important to see the reefs and shallow water.
Also mbtiles charts can cover large areas but only the area you are looking at is loaded by OpenCPN.
As far as I know OpenCPN is the only navigation program that handles mbtiles charts.
The plugin for OpenCPN comes with Sat2Chart and is usually installed automatically but if its not you can copy it from the directory that Sat2Chart is installed into the OpenCPN plugin directory. For OpenCPN V5 is called ge2kap_V17_pi.dll . It is only used by Sat2Chart to get the coordinates of the OpenCPN displayed chart.
Many users have created library of mbtiles. Mostly for the Pacific.

Re: Sat2Chart
Hello Paul,
I am looking for a bit of help and information please before I get started.
I have been using OpenCPN V4.8.6 for about 18 months on a Windows 10 laptop.
We are currently cruising in remote parts of Western Australia with many uncharted shallows and reefs, so I would like to set up the Google Earth charts/overlay.
To start this process, I tried to upgrade to OpenCPN V5.0 but it messed with the Chart Object size with the Australian Vector Charts so I have gone back to V4.8.6 for now.
I'm just wondering where I should start? Is there a User Manual or some instructions to help get me going or do I just download the Sat2Chart and go from there?
Many thanks
Jenni

Re: Sat2Chart
Jenni,
Sat2Chart has a extensive number of tutorials that should help you get started.
Here is the link to the Sat2Chart tutorials:
https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=%...2CE519717DF71B
I suggest you get on OpenCPN V5.1 beta thread and find out why your vector charts no longer work.

Re: Sat2Chart
Thanks very much Paul,
I have a conversation/ thread going about the V5.0 issue so I think that I will be able to sort that when I reinstall V5.0.
Meanwhile I will have a go at Sat2Cart on V4.8.6.
We are currently in an isolated spot with very little phone/ data signal for downloads so may take me a few days when we are back in better range.
Thanks for your help

Re: Sat2Chart
Hello All, I’m a new entry.
I have a couple of different problems with Sat2chart and SasPlanet with my desktop( windows10) and my lap top(windows10).I tried to overlay in SasPlanet maps ( bing, google earh) with layers ( navionics) ; or maps ( navionics ) with layers ( navionics )to get a kap file. Just one time I got to create a chart ( navionics+ navionics) to export in Opencpn. At the moment no further result. That is the error;
Desktop Error:
[IMG] [/IMG]
Please note that :
-I downloade files directly from Paul higgins site.
-I’m sure that I followed the tutorial rules about the SalPlanet and Sat2chart configuration.
-I made the internet speed text ( 35 Mbit/sec).
-Display clearly show that queue=0
-Number of split =4 =4 in the map setting-After each trial I alwais restarted both of the them and the lasts times I reinstalled softwares.
Laptop:
First of all, after Sat2chart download, when I try to close the right part of the mask ( utilities..) it all comes down to icon and it is impossible to coma back. It is impossible to chose depth units
Every time I try to create a chart I get these errors:
PGNAME Fatal error! Press ok to terminate
ERROR NOMETHOD occurred at line 22370
Content of line: du=comm._ducb Selectedindex—added i V23.0.0.1.
Please …..I will appreciate your help.

Re: Sat2Chart
Navacino,
I think your problems may be fixed in the next version. I will have test version of it tomorrow if you want to test it. Let me know.
You may want to try an mbtiles instead.

Are You speaking about deskotp , laptop or both of them? I made the work with SasPlanet GDAYII and Sat2 chart.V.10.0.0.0.
If next version is updated I will be happy to test it.

Re: Sat2Chart
Navacino,
Are you saying you fixed the problem by installing my version of SasPlanet?
