S63 Fingerprint issues

If the issue is confirmed to be the space, spaces in a user folder are problematic in a lot of instances. There is a workaround/fix I have used a few times that doesn't require scrapping the user profile and starting over.

Confirm the space is the issue first. Then, create a symlink from the original user folder to to a new folder similarly named but without the space. Then update the registry to point the profile location to the symlink. This removes the space, but because both the original folder name and the new name both work, you don't break anything in the process. Any software that remembers the old location still works fine.

Of course, you should create a system restore point before making a change like this.

OK...i created NewUser and ran OpenCPN under that username and the S63 fingerprint was generated .... fpr03W_1702******.fpr

Hope that goes towards resolving the issue....

Not much as it just confirms that the issue is isolated to your system and so far not reproducible by anybody.

Well yes OK...but it does seem to indicate that having a space in the user name is problematic for OpenCPN generating a fingerprint via the S63 plugin, but not for the o-charts plugin?
which seems to me to be a bit odd.
wouldn't that be the same for everyone?

We have confirmed that the space in the username is NOT the problem at the very beginning of this thread (I have created a W11 VM and an account with username containing space to do it)

But we can try to modify the S63 plugin to actually ignore what wxExecute call returns as exit code as it does in the o-charts plugin

I stand corrected. Just now verified with actual W11 hardware that space in user name is no problem for s63_pi.


Lets check permissions of file OCPNsenc, when logged in with space in name. I attach picture of my permissions for this file.

This s63_pi has a slight tweak. We are in trial and error mode now, since none of the devs can reproduce your issue.
