plug ins not showing in 4.80, one one laptop, work on another?

I have a weird problem. I have two laptops, #1 an Asus I had to wipe and reload win 10 and #2 a new Dell I bought as a spare whilst #1 was being 'geeked' When I loaded stuff onto the new Dell It included opencpn 4.2(the released one at that time) plus google earth and logbook konni plug ins, neither showed in the tools/plugins list. After reloading win 10 as a reset on the older Asus however I downloaded 4.80 plus the google earth and konni plugins and they worked, woohoo! flush with that success I installed 4.80 plus GE and Konni on the newer Dell, but NO plugins even the included ones like dashboard show in the tools/options/plugins. So I tried uninstalling opencpn, reinstalling both 4.8 and the plug ins from a blank canvas and tried again, and again, no luck whatsoever.

I'm quite sure it is most likely dumbo operator error and can always just use the other 'puter alone but it is nice to have both and would like both to work like they should

So what did I do to screw up and how can I put it right? I promise not to try DIY in future and will get the great grandkids on the job!
