I did that and the ownship flashes with the track but the piano keys stop flashing ....

Dragging the ownship off the viewport stops the flashing as before.

Moo...
Please humour me here.
Can you try OCPN v5.0 again, with exactly the same chart setup, etc.?
Just to prove that the phantom is real.....

Thanks
Dave

Ahhh further info. The flashing only occurs when zoomed in closer than 1:400000

Hmmm strange. I'm seeing this on 5.0 as well but .. similar but different. I'm only getting it occuring between 1:100000 and 1:50000 at about 1:100000 only the paino keys are flashing then track and ownship join in at closer zoom levels before becoming normal again at circa 1:50000.

I have am now running 5.0 and the two betas in a parallel install do you want me to do a clean install or something? Something issue with shared settings now perhaps?

I will remind you that I saw the same effect on a completely different computer when on my boat last weekend. So it is not just this machine.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.529 Beta Test

Moo...
Let me recap, to be sure I've got it:

1. On OCPN v5.0, parallel install...
in OpenGL mode

at a certain range of scales
and the ownship is on screen
and the mouse is idle

then: the piano bar and tracks flash on and off. If the piano bar is not visible, neither is the track.

Is this correct, as far as it goes?

If so, please disable the NMEA connection temporarily. Ownship will turn grey. Still flashing?

Thanks
Dave

Progress here. It is something to do with the my recorded tracks. (would have been the same on the boat ! ) . I delete all tracks and all is OK I bring the tracks back in and there is no flashing but they do not display when zoomed out past the point where the flashing stopped before. ! I'll PM you a link to the tracks.

Correct and disabling NMEA from all sources was the first thing I tried. No change

Moo...
Now we get somewhere.
With your super large track GPX file loaded, I can see the tracks come and go depending on scale, center location, etc. Funny, that the chart piano-bar also disappears whenever a track disappears...

I will dig in.
Thanks

As a quick check (NOT AN OFFICIAL BETA), will you please try:

Just in for a coffee from sanding a centreboard for my new dinghy and saw your reply come in.

Seems just fine. I've tried single pane and two pane and lots of zooming and panning and everything seems to remain solid.. Good one!

Sometimes the time zone difference helps us.
The bug was a long-standing line of code, evidently affects only Windows GL, certainly present in O5 as well.

Thanks for your patience.

No worries. Glad to help things along. Working on getting my own build environment up and running but stuck on a dependency at the moment, will get back to it.,,, ZMA or something...

Dave, I think it's all of us who owe you a HUGE Thanks for digging in on these rare bugs. Getting OpenCPN to run (more or less) the same on all machines & all OSs is a HUGE job.

Thank you so much!

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.529 Beta Test

Have just started testing the new pi-handling. Thanks to the developer for that, what an improvement!
I know the beta testing is still focusing on functional perfection and feature additions are frozen, however may I raise also some cosmetic points?
The options dialog did never make good use of the available screen real estate but this situ is now getting worst and may invite attention of someone who can make gui design (which I am unfortunatly not).
Some suggestions:
1. Order of pi's
pre (I believe 5.0) it was possible to change the order or pi's listing which had the idea to have them arranged in the same order on the toolbar - that never worked flawless and was scrapped. what is now the order ? alphabetic, random, from whatever it is/was in the ini file? timestamp of pi file?
2. under W10 whenever a pi is selected the row expands and the size of the tickbox changed. Would like to suggest to arrange the two tick boxed in the same line.
3. even in English the dialog is cluttered - please rearrange the spaces.

I attach a screenshot which shows my points

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.529 Beta Test

Pluginmanager UI...
I've received a user comment for the UI. On slow machines, like a RPi, we may need a response that a button is clicked.
Update catalog: Nothing happens until the download report eventually appears.
Install/Update a plugin: Also here it can take some time until the download window appears.
Would the spinning mouse be a solution for all buttons activating a network connection?
