Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.428 Beta Test

All..
Any other testers have comments on ENC (Vector chart) depth sounding size or appearance?

Thanks
Dave

Attached is your version and my version with same settings.
If you want to make your version more worse why not make also the famous fogging function to your chart view?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.428 Beta Test

Hi Dave & Team,

I have 5.1.428 installed on Windows7, Windows10 and Linux Mint. Installation was very smooth and O seems to run fine.

The soundings are OK for me. I think it's an improvement that the soundings in shallow water stand out more clearly than the soundings in deeper (safer) water.

A few observations though:

LINUX MINT 19.3 (Cinnamon 4.4.8)
1. Jumping Toolbar
In my Linux Mint setup, I noticed that when using the button for changing the color scheme, the toolbar jumped from the lefthand side of the screen to the righthand side. The only way to persuade it to jump back to where it belonged, was to click the button for " Dashboard" (Weird....).

2. Toolbar Buttons visibility
When using the toolbar buttons for some plugins (like OCPN Draw), the visibility of those (and other) toolbar buttons deteriorated (turned black or in other ways distorted). See the enclosed screenshot.

WINDOWS 7 & WINDOWS10

Font size of "Menu"
In my Windows7 & Windows10 setup, the fontsize of the Menu is not consistent. The font corresponding to some "external" plugins, like OCPN Draw, ShipDriver and Meteovache is a lot smaller than the font of the "standard" items. See the enclosed screenshot.

But on the whole OpenCPN is still getting better and better.

Thank you all for that!

Roel

Another example for macOS. oeSENC.
For me it its better now . There are vector charts with extremely crowded single soundings - which we switch off when looking from a smaller scale.

Important is a clear and crisp sounding when you have to handle it.

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.428 Beta Test

need a toolbar pin function. It sometimes accidentally shifts to the side, especially on the touch screen.
A fix tick would be nice to add to the context menu of the toolbar icon selection

I find the larger size a bit of clutter when zoomed out but satisfactory when zoomed far in.

Using dual canvas and turning soundings off is OK for me.

Am I correct that the Climatology plugin is not available yet?

CM-93, Windows 10, Laptop with 4K screen and 200% display scaling (via windows). Largest font is "Chart Object Scale Factor" = 0 and the smaller font "Chart Object Scale Factor" = -1

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.428 Beta Test

I find on this Beta 5.1.428 that my COG indicator line is very slow to move when i change course like in 15 seconds late at times. My heading indicator line move normal without problem, this does not happen on 5.0.0

About the crowded soundings. Using the 'reduce detail at small scale´ setting makes a huge different.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.428 Beta Test

Dave, there had been a proposal to suppress soundings > x when being at a small scale. Would help in some cases.

An observation: there is no common rule for the usage of the SCAMIN parameter for soundings between the different Hydrographic Offices.
What makes a general approach almost impossible.

The small increase of size of the soundings does help quite well for better legibility and a crispier outline of the fonts.

That's a good thought.
I also use to say O is the best but if I have to use an official one the Time-Zero is acceptable. There is an option to suppress soundings for a given interval or above a user setting. That's also a thought for an O implementation in addition to our "Safety depth" behavior.
