Re: OpenCPN General

Thanks Wingsail. We need to get to the bottom of this, but I don't have time right now.
Is it related to if the waypoint is part of a route or is a standalone waypoint?

Wingsail...
Have you found that simple waypoints (not part of a route) can sometimes NOT be dragged by left click? Or do they have to be part of a Route in order to be un-draggable?

This is a generalized condition. It applies to waypoints created as stand alone waypoints and waypoints created in, or used in, a route.

Newly created waypoints work as expected and the "Lock Waypoints..." works properly on them. Other waypoints remain "locked" whether or not the Lock Waypoints box is ticked or blank and they cannot be moved by dragging even when the properties dialog is open.

Don't need to get on it right away. It not not much of an issue for me since I have work arounds as mentioned previously, and I can relocate waypoints with lon/lat.

I think that other users, even ones making routes with many waypoints, might still not be inconvenienced since newly created waypoints seem to move OK.

OK on all.
Request, if you have the time:
1. Start OCPN
2. Find some isolated waypoint that cannot be dragged. Capture the GUID of this point (in Properties dialog).
3. Stop OCPN
4. Edit navobj.xml, and find that waypoint, by searching for GUID.
5. Post the entire waypoint entry from the xml file here.

Maybe this way we can find out what is "different" about this point.

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN General

I had a moment, and tested with Windows and O 5.6.0

1. With Options > Ships > Own Ship > Control Options > Lock waypoints unchecked, Both types can be moved with a left click mouse button.

2. With Options > Ships > Own Ship > Control Options > Lock waypoints checked, Both types cannot be moved with a left or right click mouse button.

  • Mouse Right click and selection of Properties allows moving both types any mark or waypoint. To lock waypoints, close properties.
The question I had was about some writing the the manual which appears to be incorrect.
I have not been able to right click and drag either type, I must pick Properties to release the lock.

I will try to find an "old" mark or waypoint that will not move, later.

Re: OpenCPN General

I wonder if it would be possible to make a toggle key "K" to lock/unlock? or is that too dangerous?

Perhaps it should be a double key? Maybe Control + L ? there is another toggle like that, ctrl + I

Re: OpenCPN General

Weird... if I drop a new mark, I can drag it without needing left or right click - just drag it.
But trying this on older marks drags the whole canvas.

I have played with the mark properties but not found any setting that changes its behaviour.

Re: OpenCPN General

Windows 10, Opencpn 5.6.0
If I drop a new mark or route, with Options > Ship > Own Ship > Control Options Lock Waypoints "unlocked", I can move all WP and Marks.

If I drop a new mark or route, with Options > Ship > Own Ship > Control Options Lock Waypoints "locked" I can only move all WP's in routes and all simple waypoints by opening a Waypoint "Properties" box.

I believe this is the way lock/unlock is expected to work.

Re: OpenCPN General

I also tried making one of these

"case where a WP can become FSWP: when a routepoint is removed from a route, it becomes a FSWP. free standing or simple WP"

and it works as expected just like the other Waypoints and routes, with respect to Locking and unlocking.

Re: OpenCPN General

Some weird behaviour on my macbook while moving maps or zooming in or out. Attached an image. I also made a brief screenrecording: https://drive.google.com/file/d/14Ra...rVSPIph3QMIkBJ Is this a (known) bug, has it got to do with my user settings, or should I report is somewhere (other then here)? #anyone?

Very hard to help if there is no more information about the used hardware and OS version, the charts loaded and without the logfile and settings file (*.ini). As seen in your google-drive file you have another 15 applications open beside OpenCPN, why?

Re: OpenCPN General

Thx @carcode. I can provide all info here. Just be aware, this is my work machine. Not using this one for navigation on board. Just wanted to explore the options to sail back from NZ this morning when I noticed the behaviour again. Again, because it's been there for a while. Might be the case since the verye version 5, not sure.

The ini files I might have copied (originally) from my navigation machine, just as the CM93 charts. I can give it a try to remove those?

It's a MacBook pro 13'' M1 (2020) (16Gb) running the latest macOS (Monterey 12.3). There might have been more than 15 other applications open, as far as I am aware, that did not make any difference.
