OpenCPN does not appear to scale propelly ?

Hi,
Running the latest version on :

Operating System: Kubuntu 20.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0
Qt Version: 5.12.8
Kernel Version: 5.4.0-77-generic
OS Type: 64-bit
Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-4570T CPU @ 2.90GHz
Memory: 15.4 GiB of RAM

Problem:
OpenCPN does not appear to 'scale' properly... see attachment.
My display resolution is set to 4,096 x 3,260 with a scaling factor of 200%
The reason for using this scaling factor is that my display is a 4k but only 15.6inch

Question:
Is there an OpenCPN setting that would resolve this of is this a bug that is worthy of reporting ?

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN General

Not worth reporting as it would be a duplicate of https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/issues/1927 where you will also find a workaround.

HI

May I ask what is the difference between the github for OpenCPN and https://opencpn.org/flyspray/ ?

Is the former just for the Linux version ?

Is OpenCPN being developed by two different team ?

Just trying to understand a bit more about who does what since I have migrated from Window to Linux aboard.

Thanks,

The Github project is where the actual development is taking place, flyspray on opencpn.org is historically the user facing bug/feature request tracker. It does not matter where you talk to us.

Re: OpenCPN General

After upgrade from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04. What should be done to OpenCPN?
1. My old build of OpenCPN does not seem to be working very well, but shouldn't it work?

2. I guess I should rebuild Opencpn for the current master in Ubuntu 20.04.
3. My Flatpak version is pretty flaky too. Many plugins have puzzles. etc. But I thought that would be compatible.

You are looking for them in a wrong place. OpenCPN 5 supports multiple chart canvases displayed at the same time and a lot of stuff, including the display of tide and current info, is being set individually per canvas (= you may have the screen divided and each part displaying different charts at different scale with different features).
The canvas specific stuff is accessed by clicking on the "hamburger" icon in the right bottom corner of each chart canvas.
The main toolbar on the left contains only functions that are not canvas dependent.

Because LINZ changed the TLS certificate their webserver uses for some that is not trusted at least on most Linux distributions.

Re: OpenCPN General

Hi, first post as I try to get OpenCPN Working on my Mac (11.4).
Looking for the latest Mac download from OpenCPN downloads page the location I'm taken to only has the "pkg" file which I believe is for a iOS plug-in and not the "dmg" file.

Could someone in the know point me to an alternative if one exists or tell me how idiotic I'm been an point me to the correct location at OpenCPN?

Thanks in advance.

The .pkg is the macOS installer package. Open it (Ctrl-Click, select Open from the context menu) and you will be guided through the installation process.

right-click menu in night mode is crazy bright, needs a dimmer colour scheme.

AIS target list in night mode displays bright, then chages to night colours when shown(), I think it is possibly being shown() and then having the colours modified. Bit annoying at night.

default colours for the console legend and console values are invisible and close to black on a black background, cause of numerous user questions and head scratching. setting a sensible/visible colour as the build default would solve this.
