AIS Query Gives Wrong Bearing and Course

I'm using a Raspberry Pi4 and Open CPN 5.8.4-3. When I click on any of the AIS targets and choose query target, it gives all good information except the bearing to the target and the course of the target are always shown as 0.001˚ no matter where the target is. If I put the cursor on the target I can see the correct bearing in the Status Bar, but the bearing and course in the query window are always 0.001.

An additional problem I'm having is with the radar. I have a SIMRAD 4G radar and when I set the Guard Zone to a 1 NM circle, it shows the circle around my boat and if I turn on the alarm, the alarm sounds every 30 seconds or so whether there is a target in the circle or not. It should only sound when a target enters the circle.

Is OpenCpn getting a proper GPS position for your vessel? Ie is there a green symbol at the top right corner?

Yes. It has three bars at the top right corner and the GPS location is correct.

Two issues in one thread is not optional. A circle zone has one inner and one outer range from the boat. Be sure the inner range is enough distanced from center otherwise will blobs from the own ship interfere.

I did have the inner circle as "0" so maybe that was the problem. I've changed that now and will test it out when I leave my anchorage tomorrow.

that's particularly important in a RADAR, because most of the times you cannot control the sea clutter in vicinities of your vessel without compromising the quality of received targets.
you'll must adjust to leave a "blind area" close to your vessel because the influence of your vessel and the environment will give you a big quantity of false echoes.

Re: AIS Query Gives Wrong Bearing and Course

AIS Target bearing seems to be a bug. Confirmed here, but only if "Show magnetic bearing" is choosen.

This bug doesn't seem to be fixed, at least on the Mac version of OCPN. I downloaded the latest version of 5.8.4 and installed it and when I query AIS targets, it still shows the course and bearing as 001˚. If there's an update somewhere that's later than what's listed on the OpenCP.org website, how do I get it?

You must use the CI build products from the development source code to have the latest fixes, 5.8.4 is still the same.
You can get the latest development build from https://cloudsmith.io/~david-registe...able/packages/

Re: AIS Query Gives Wrong Bearing and Course

macOS:

If you want to have the two versions in parallel - as 5.9.0 is beta.. -
then rename your actual application to for example "OpenCPN-5.8.4"
"Finder" --> "Applications"

The pkg you install will create an "OpenCPN" entry in "Applications".

Both versions will share the same settings.
