Re: The two person shower

Not impossible to find and worth it for some of us. Our Freedom 36 had a 2-person shower which worked quite well, I promise you. You’d think space wax wasted to get it but not so, just good frontage for the toilet and sink.
How much sailing do you plan to do?

Re: The two person shower

to the OP: may I also suggest you include the timber lining and fold down seat bench etc necessary to also use the shower space as a sauna / hot rock splash steam room. Perfect for removing the salts of the sea and does wonders all round.

Re: The two person shower

My next boat will have a shower big enough for me to shower naked with my 3 nubile dogs, and a special room for the the dogs' personal masseuse. It will have an Olympic sized swimming pool with room around the edges for my 100's of envious guests to watch me swim naked with my 3 nubile dogs. Cruiser form members will have reserved front row seats; book now.

The yacht will have special 24/7 "envy" cameras everywhere so my every move can be seen and envied on youtube and all other media "platforms". There will also be a special AI unit that advises me about how I can enhance my "envy score".
I'm working on a top-secret quantum unit that can transform envy into electrical power.
Naturally the yacht will be painted green for envy and for sustainable power.

Re: The two person shower

I keep thinking about the galvanised nails on the Beneteau. I reckon if I went to the Beneteau storeman and asked for galvanized nails he would think I had rocks in my head. What I could imagine him having is Chinese 304 stainless steel brads for a brad gun. That's a bloody useful tool when boat building. When I was doing my boat building apprenticeship we did a yearly stocktake at the boatyard and I am fairly certain galvanized nails were never on the inventory. I can't even think why you would need them.
The two person shower is a contentious issue on this forum. For me a must have on my steel Lagoon hybrid was being antifoul free. Below the waterline was plated in steel from a decommissioned Russian nuclear submarine. I have never needed antifoul again, admittedly the wife's hair and mine all fell out when we moved onboard. But once we lined the hull interior with lead it all grew back again.
Nuku funny there's a bit of green glow from our cat, it's like a permanent underwater light.
Cheers

Re: The two person shower

A question for those with minimal shower or shower in a head. Where do you dry your weather gear, and where do you sail? There's a great difference sailing Caribean or N-Atlantic..

Re: The two person shower

Wow, still at the top

Just what holds fiberglass together. Glue.

What is a stringer without fiberglass, just the glue part.

It cannot be more direct. Without the fiberglass that part of the boat is held together with just glue.

Not the entire boat, just the second most important structural part is held together with just glue, in the absence of fiberglass.

Forces travel through the structure and only cause problems if they find a weak point

Planning for all of the stringers to NOT carry much load is shall we say, not a good idea at all.

Others will describe this in more caustic terms

I stopped getting responses from this thread. I will check in, in a couple of days.

Re: The two person shower

Yeah, gotta what out for those "second stringers".
My current yacht, an Alden 46, doesn't have ANY first or second stringers. Will it fall apart without the "second most important structural part" missing? Maybe I'd need stringers if my hull wasn't 25mm solid hand-laid fibreglass with resin (yeah that's another name for "glue") holding it together.

On this level of understanding of engineering, naval architecture and boat building you imply having I'd never trust anything you have fixed on a boat. Or you are just making an argument becouse why?

Re: The two person shower

In most boats you have the hull and a frame inside of the hull.

More often nowadays, the frame is glued to the hull

For strength you have to properly join the frame and the hull by a lay up with fiberglass. After layup you essentially have one stable mass

Here you see the frame inserted.

After the hull layup you lay up the frame ( stringers) with fiberglass and glue.

Alternatively you can just glue the frame to the boat.

I linked the video of sailing aurora previously.

Here it is again. This is a series of pro repair videos. I recommend watching most of the series.
