Perhaps it collapsed into the sea. Or perhaps the location was not exactly pinpointed. But, maybe it is still out there just waiting below the surface for the next boat with six foot keel to come it's way and then....
By coincidence a Slocum 37 draws 6' loaded down. Just sayin'.

Ouch. I was bragging about how fast an Evelyn 32 is recently. What I didn't tell was how we ran hard aground on sand(!) and tore the keel about 4" off from where it joins the hull for about 18". All of us were surprised except the owner. He was sick, as I bet you are, Del.

Pride was hurt for sure. And it threw us off our seats. Boat was lifted right out of the water.
But the keel to hull joint is glassed over so it stressed the glass and oil canned the hull a bit just behind the keel and cracked a couple stringers above. But with (7) 1" monel keel bolts, the keel stayed put. All fixed now and very cautious when less then a mile from shore now.

The present habit of a certain set of Americans of portraying the French as some sort of effeminate pansies that turn and run at the first opportunity every time really burns me up. It is not supported by history, and it's just unpleasant and unnecessary, especially considering the relationship our two countries have had. There are lots of French members of this forum, and I would not like the "French warships shoot flaky gay croissants" comment to represent the sole American viewpoint on this forum. I think that's just a poor attitude.
@minaret. I am truly saddened if you thought my post was portraying the French in a negative light. I was just trying to point out that the French Revolution came AFTER the American Revolution, and that America failed to pay back the French (King) the debts incurred from the American Revolution. How you managed to read it as something more amazes me.

Again my post was trying to minimize the propagation of false history.

Wish all on the forum well. French and not French. Hope that clears any miscommunication...

I had no problem whatsoever with what you said, it was Propellantech's post that bothered me. It sounds like the answer to my question "Are you honestly suggesting the French didn't play an important role in the American Revolution?" is no.

The post I found offensive-

None of us ever really figured on you buying the next round . . .

Re: South Pacific Island discovered......to not exist!

It was a sandy island. Perhaps the tides and currents took it apart?

Re: South Pacific Island discovered......to not exist!

My suspicion is that the anomaly was originally identified as something to be investigated further - and simply marked in the interim with "Sandy Island?".......and somewhere along the line the question mark fell off (Worldcheck?!).

Either that or a quick bit of research for someone called Sandy who was involved in map making 10 years back.......

Very strange indeed. All the more reason to keep a sharp lookout with one's eyes.
