Back on topic a Frenchman would not name an island sandy. Se pas vrai? So who named it? By the way it is nouveau Caledonia, and I fart in your general direction!

Why don't you fish it out and post it here ?
I wonder if failure to act is because none of those entities are responsible for that area. Now, the question would be: who's in charge of marine surveys in the Solomons ?
PS (less exciting)A friend of mine complained recently to the French Hydro Service (SHOM) that a failed attempt by some local authority to extend a breakwater to protect an anchorage had left uncharted piles of rubble...
He eventually got his name in the NTM, and a new chartlet was issued !

I suspect that Croissants in Alabama have as much connection to those made in France as French Fries in Macdonalds do......

Well, Nouvelle Caledonie actually. And I'm no authority at all. I just like the place. A bit expensive, that's all.

Dave,
They don't have any croissants in Alabama. For such refined tastes you have to go to Mississippi!
Your right of course the best croissant I have had stateside was not as good as the worst in France. Too bad the French consider them a hearty breakfast!
You are correct it is nouvelle, and I have never been there. My triptophan(spl?) Addled brain was thinking of nouveau orleans which I have been to but of course we don't call it that.

Re: South Pacific Island discovered......to not exist!
Say what you want about the French, but they have outstanding coffee, and pastries, most of the cooking there is to die for even in the Paris airport, which I detest. Every French colony I have been to has those same outstanding traits. Please, please, please publish the gps coordinates to this island, can be our new headquarters for when we go a pirating, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! !!!!!!!!!!!

Re: South Pacific Island discovered......to not exist!
I've encountered an island in the Bahamas that was not on the charts, and I've sailed by a charted island in the San Blas that is now underwater. Not every inch of the globe is well charted, and someplace like that is so far off the beaten track that it wouldn't surprise me if there is an island somewhere in the vicinity that hasn't been properly located. I suppose someone who knew what they were doing could peruse satellite images and find a lot of anomalies like this.

I however, haven't spent my entire life in Alabama. I went to all those places with foreigners there.

Oh come on now.......at least Tennessee.......but definitely not Mississippi. Probably Louisiana, due to the French influence.

It was rumored that a French person once visited Mississippi. It is believed he was lost, and thought himself to be in Quebec. That is how I know they have seen a croissant in Ms. With moutarde of course. Mmmhmm. I like the way you talk.

Re: South Pacific Island discovered......to not exist!
It could happen:
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...orn-79188.html
Perhaps it collapsed into the sea. Or perhaps the location was not exactly pinpointed. But, maybe it is still out there just waiting below the surface for the next boat with six foot keel to come it's way and then....
