Re: Sat2Chart

Sat2Chart.V15.0.0.0 is now available.
  • Fixes At5 geo-referencing.
  • See Change.log for other fixes.

New:
  • Support for SasPlanet option: "Overwrite old tiles".
  • Number of Splits (Downloads) can now be set for each map.
  • Many checkboxes made sticky (don't have to check every run).
  • Option to bypass confirming the selected polygon/paths.
  • Vertical scroll for Zoom and Map windows.
  • Performance improvement for users creating multiple charts. Will invoke a separate SasPlanet to process each PolygonPath/map selected.

No Longer Supported:
  • Unquilted Kaps
  • Choice to create mbtiles by Sat2Chart. Mbtiles will always be created in SasPlanet.

Here is a link to a video summarizing all the new options:

Here is the link to download the new version. Do not click on the link, instead copy it and paste into your browser:

Many thanks to my testers: Terry Sargent and Jon Hacking.

Re: Sat2Chart

Thanks for the very useful product Paul. I would like to include multiple zoom levels in the mbtiles from SASplanet (for use in QGIS), but even when the option is ticked in the SASPlanet options, it appears to do nothing unless Multi-Map support is on. In the past I have got around this by including my desired layer as a Multi-map option. I recall changing the list of available "multi-map" layers in the past (the layer I want is not available by default), but I can no longer find how to do it. Cheers

Re: Sat2Chart

Hi Paul. There are two parts to the question: does the selection of multiple zooms require Multi-map support? I can't get the zoom level selection to show without the Multi-map option selected. 2. How can I change the maps/layers visible in the Multi-map listing? I assume it is a SASPlanet setting somewhere.

Re: Sat2Chart

Well the zooms appear for me without multi-map.

You can setup your own maps see the Help/SasPlanet/Multi-Map Support.

You can't change the layer. You must select one layer manually before making charts. First Hide them all then select one.

Re: Sat2Chart

HI Paul,
great application! I am a newbie at this but love the fact that I can create images for OpenCPN.

I am running your latest 15.0.2.0 and have a question about image resolution;
when I display on google earth pro a zoomed in image and create an MBtile , the resolution of the viewed image on OpenCPN is slightly less crisp then on Google Earth.

I am not saying there is a big difference, but noticeable, Am I doing something wrong? or is there a setting to play with?

Re: Sat2Chart

Seatrek,

No there is no adjustment except maybe your screen resolution. Sat2Chart simply takes a screenshot and converts it to an mbtiles.

Re: Sat2Chart

Seatrek, I would strongly urge you to use SAS Planet instead of Google Earth (GE). This lets the mbTiles be built directly from the cache, using the downloaded "tiles". These may have the resolution that you're looking for, & they don't have to go through the screenshot mechanism.

Also, SAS gives you access to much more than just GE. We make our mbTiles from ArcGIS, Bing (Microsoft) & GE (via SAS), & of those 3, GE is usually the worst (& there are many others to choose from, like Nokia).

SAS also gives you access to CMap & Navionics nautical charts. By using "Chart Groups", OpenCPN allows the user to switch between charts with only a single keystroke, so it's fast & easy to see which chart is the best for you when you're out navigating.

You're still learning to play with Sat2Chart, & SAS has its own learning curve, but it's worth learning. Sat2Chart is an excellent automation engine for driving SAS.

I've recently published a step by step How-To guide to Making mbTiles. I've tried to write it so even novices can create high-quality navigational charts, so questions & comments are welcome.

Re: Sat2Chart

Paul,

I'm having a similar issue as Rotgut with Zoom not working for me. When I build a chart with zoom levels 13 through 18, level 13 is crisp, but as you zoom out it quickly becomes blurred - a lot more blurred than the equivalent zoom level in SAS Planet when you view it. I tried Rotgut's work around of using multi-map but I got the following error:

Error: no hlgs to process
Error: R_Start_All_SasPlanets failed.

Here is a screen shot of zoomed out a little without multi map support :

https://gyazo.com/2406477c0b2535d23843bb16446187ae

and the same area shown in SaSPlanet :

https://gyazo.com/e7969abf1483bef63c9533e6869f438d

I think I'm missing some important step or parameter - any ideas?

And thank you so much for all the work you've done on this - it really is an amazing tool

Thanks

John

Re: Sat2Chart

JohnEvans,

First when you have Mult-Map checked, you have to select one more maps, the error indicates you did not. I probably should change the error message.

For you other question about the zoom level not being clear, reproduce the problem and send me an email with the sat2Chart.log attached so I can see what you are doing. You will find the log in the directory where Sat2Chart is installed probably: C:\SAT2CHART\SAT2CHART.V15.0.2.0
My email is in the Help at the top.

Paul
