4kMike, What version of OORexx are you on? Try downloading this version and install it. Take all the defaults while installing:
http://gdayii.ca/Downloads/Open%20Object%20Rexx.exe

You will have to copy the link above and paste it into your browser.

Re: Sat2Chart

OK, I did it but Win10 excellent firewall blocks it: "Virus detected"
(And thank you that you do this support... :-))

Re: Sat2Chart

4kMike,

Its a false positive and you can allow it to run. But if you want to try the latest version of OORExx go to:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/oor...exx/5.0.0beta/

and click on the ooRexx-5.0.0-12286.windows.x86_32.exe (NOT the _64) and after it downloads run it and click the "Run Anyway" when you get the blue screen.

Re: Sat2Chart

Can someone explain what the various options on SasPlanet tab actually do?

Specifically the following:

Download all selected zoom levels but create chart from only the highest. How is this different from Include Layer only in highest zoom level.

What does reusing selected levels actually do? Does it not prompt you for zoom levels if that is selected?

Lastly, is there a way to capture from Sas Planet a selection instead of the whole screen?

What I have been trying to do (unsuccessfully) is select a region, then download ALL of it in highest resolution available. The problem is that not all parts of the selection have zoom levels. So issue I have been having is that it will finish the download but the map will have just blotches that were available in that zoom level.

PS - why are the downloads so slow when actual final size is a few megabytes? I can zoom all around SAS planet and load anything instantly. But it seems like even tiny regions take forever with Sat2Chart. (I am on 150Mgabit down connection, 24core processor with 32GB of ram).

Is there a way to allocate more resources for Sat2Chart? When selecting higher than 18 zoom level I get:

Duxa,

What version of Sat2Chart are you on? If you are at the latest version V13.0.4.0 then recreate that problem and send me an email with the Sat2Chart.log attached. My email is in the Help and the log is in the same directory as where Sat2Chart is installed probably: C:\SAT2CHART\SAT2CHART.V13.0.4.0

Duxa, how many download threads are you using? Those threads are apparently throttled by SAS, for reasons that are unknown, but you can up the number of download threads to counter this throttling:
  • In SAS, select Settings/Map Settings, Internet tab (usually wakes up there)
  • Set Max http requests to some high number like 50
  • Close the dialog & repeat for each map you plan to use

In Sat2Chart, I set my download threads to 20, & I have to use a slow 4G cell signal for my internet, so you may be able to go even higher.

I keep a Task Manager window up, so I can watch my network speeds while Sat2Chart is working. Play with that Download Threads number to see where your network bandwidth saturates. I can get 1-2Mbps during the day, sometimes as high as 10Mbps at night (although some map servers are slower than others).

Note that Sat2Chart will work on 2 maps at the same time (each with 20 threads) & if you're downloading Layers as well, that's another 20 threads/layer (or whatever number you're using) although the layer info gets downloaded relatively quickly. FWIW, I don't like Layers, as they tend to leave fragmentary text droppings on other zoom levels (a SAS problem).

I suggest that you NOT download just the highest resolution (zoom), for performance reasons.

Before OpenCPN supported mbTiles, the best we could use was KAPs, which have only the one resolution (they're really just screenshots). This brought OpenCPN performance to a crawl, because when you were at a different display zoom, OpenCPN's display system had to decide which pixels to throw out & which to display. Even with a fast computer, we usually wanted to switch back to CM93, pan to our new area of interest, & turn the KAPs back on again.

MbTiles can have multiple zoom levels, which makes it MUCH easier on the OpenCPN display system. It just has to check what display zoom you're at, extract that zoom from the mbTile, & slam it out to the display system. Panning around with mbTiles displayed is slower than with CM93, but it's VERY usable, especially with the recent performance improvements in OpenCPN.

Also, there are 4x as many tiles in each higher zoom, so the lower zooms will only take up 25-30% of an mbTile. Your highest zoom will be 2/3 of your mbTile, so it's pretty cheap to store the other zooms. I include zooms 10-18 in all my mbTiles. While some areas may have higher zooms, I've found that Z18 is high enough for me to see what I need to, & many places can't go higher.

If you're making a lot of mbTiles & want to leverage the awesome power of the Sat2Chart automation engine, you might be interested in my recently published How-To article on Making mbTiles. We've tried to write it so even novices can create high-resolution charts, so if you have any questions, please let me know, as I'm sure others will as well.

Re: Sat2Chart

Sat2Chart V13.0.5.0 is now available one fix:
- Creating a single chart with multiple zoom levels from Sasplanet adds a preceding underscore to the chart name.

Re: Sat2Chart

Hi Paul
I have been trying to get paths and poly working for ages and keep giving up but today made the big effort again with the latest download of Sat2Chart

I have your tutorial open on one screen and stop and start and do everything step by step and get this.

First two pics are the steps on your tutorial, pic 2 is what I should get but pic 3 is what I actually get.

The screen says "Error(s): Sas Planet Too many toolbars open! See the Help SasPlanet Setup Section" but have found nothing about too many toolbars open.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Add: I have no dramas making full screen KAP, just path and polygon wont play nice for me.
