Re: Smallest pocket cruiser with marine head

Eastern Boats, who also make Seaway boats have a 21 footer with V-birth and pump out head.

I have a Seaway 24 CC with a pump out head.

That is apparently easy to do as that is what my CC had, I’m sure there is a kit or something.

Re: Smallest pocket cruiser with marine head

The Catlina 25s are a pretty good value for the money with a rather large head. I am talking about the ones in the last twenty years or so. I delivered one down the coast and was pretty impressed with the interior room given its size.

Have a look at the 22' Falmouth Cutter, the fiberglass version of the Pardey's Seraffyn.

Re: Smallest pocket cruiser with marine head

I owned a C&C25mk1. For a 25 foot boat, it was huge, and could handle just about any wind and waves you could imagine. It had a real, porcelain, marine head with proper holding tank with (proper deck fittings) pump-out, and all the smelly hoses that go along with it. It was also very comfortable for 3 people to go on week long trips, especially if 2 of those people are under 10 years old.

I am also in Ontario. I owned a Tanzer 22 with a properly installed "porta potti" which was bolted in place (factory installed) with deck fittings for pump-out. It was located beneath the centre cushion of the vee berth, offering little head room, and zero privacy. Needless to say, it was never used.

Re: Smallest pocket cruiser with marine head

I think it would be quite unusual to choose a sailboat solely by its "head", but perhaps its just one criteria of many.

My daughter owned a Siren 17. Its a capable trailer sailor with a huge cockpit and fun to sail. It had a factory installed "head". It was a locker (below, forward) with a round hole on top (with cover)...the seat...and plumbing to allow pump-out. Although it "legally" was a proper head, its not the sort of thing I would ever...uh...sit on.

Re: Smallest pocket cruiser with marine head

Thank you all for the advices. Really appreciate the help.

I am located in Pudget Sound Seattle area. It seems composting toilet is a viable alternative to marine head with holding tank. I think that will free up more rooms as its a simplier system.

Most of the suggestions here are for sailing boat. I am actually leaning towards a powerboat, as it offers more room for liveaboard.

Re: Smallest pocket cruiser with marine head

I would advise a trailer-sailer rather than a small pocket cruiser. If you are going to forgo the convenience of trailering a 26 footer or less to different locations and paying no marina fees when you take it home, then I would get something larger than a small one--say 32 to forty feet.

But--if you insist on being small and stuck in a marina--then a Contessa 26 or its equivalent. You can add a plastic holding tank, even a removable one, for a couple of hundred dollars or so--and another three hundred for the heads pedestal and macerater pump--and if you want to be uber-safe, a chlorination pre-treatment of sewage such as by using a Sani-chlor or similar system will pre-sterilise what sewage is retained in the holding tank, as well as rendering biologically safe any sewage discharged overboard. The Sani-chlor system uses liquid swimming pool chlorine solution.

If you are going to spend extensive times at sea and have power to burn--one could try an Electrosan system. To use it in a lake one would have to add swimming pool salt.

I used heavy plastic water containers fitted into racks as sewage tanks, so I could carry the filled tanks of sterilised macerated sewage ashore to a discharge facility, or a spot where the sewage could be buried. There are environmentally friendly sterilants available, but they are not cheap--one adds them to the bowl before flushing. I used such sewage in my garden--it worked well.

Re: Smallest pocket cruiser with marine head

ometic do a Portable toilet 972 0r 976 (8.9 litre or 18.9 litre waste tank respectively) which also have the facility to purchase a pump out and hold down kit so that they can be fixed in place. I have the 976 on my Parker 27 (26 foot) after removing the original sea toilet. I had a similar setup without the pump out facility on a little 16 foot gaff cutter that had two berths in a sitting headroom only cabin. It sat under the step into the cabin. You do not need a seawater inlet, only an outlet with a separate bilge type pump to pump it out when at sea. Has worked fine on my Parker since I installed it three years back and means I don't have any worries where I go.(literally!)

Fine to empty this into a toilet as long as it is not a septic system. The normal stuff we put into holding tanks is VERY BAD for septic systems.

I think there are 16' and 19' pocket cruiser called West Wight Potters. Here's an article on pocket cruisers.

Re: Smallest pocket cruiser with marine head

Our first (fiberglass) sailboat was a 23' Aquarius with a swing keel. Incredibly roomy for 23'. Tender but forgiving and handy to sail. A great pocket cruiser. With 4 people on a rainy 3-day weekend and it never felt crowded.

Now we have a Kelley-Peterson 46. (grin)

Re: Smallest pocket cruiser with marine head

Our Cape Dory 25D had a huge head area (it was placed in the forepeak), with a flushing toilet and holding tank. I've been on forty five footers with smaller heads that it had.
