Guide to US Pacific coast ports?

I recall reading of a 'cruising guide' which detailed all or most of the stop-off points along the entire western seaboard. Stupidly, I didn't order it, and can't seem to find it.

Does anyone know of such a publication? I think it was published privately.

Appreciate your input!
Eamonn.

Re: Guide to US Pacific coast ports?

You are correct, S/V Content but I cannot for the life of me recall the name. The Coast Pilot which is updated regularly is a fine guide for a trip south. Better hurry though, you might need a visa as well as a passport to enter CA. Cheers, Phil

Thanks Phil. I'm an Irishman, and we haven't offended many folk (except the Brits :-) ). Planning to take her down west, through the canal, and then ship from Miami, back home to the UK. Cheers, Eamonn

I did SF to Vancouver Island, using Charlies Charts (great for details of and entrances to harbors) and Douglass' guide, same info different approach to documentation. Both good, complimentary to each other. If I only could have one, I'd go for Charlies.

Re: Guide to US Pacific coast ports?

There's also "Cruising the Northwest Coast" by George Benson. All the gunk-holes and harbors from the Golden Gate north to Port Angeles. I haven't gotten to any of them yet...
Only seems to be available from his widow. georgebenson.com, if I recall.

Charlie's Charts of the US Pacific Coast

Boating Mexico - Pat Rains

Sea of Cortez - Sean Breeding and Heather Bansmere

Pacific Mexico - Sean Breeding and Heather Bansmere

You can find all of these on Amazon.com. However, I think Sean and Heather's book is a direct purchase from them, now on Blue Latitude Press.
Blue Latitude Press - Go Confidently!

The cruising guides by Sean and Heather are the best out there. The charts and navigation points are priceless. The books sell for about $60, but are actually worth thousands.

Stay safe and have fun. It's an adventurous trip!

Re: Guide to US Pacific coast ports?

This may be of partial assistance, and it is free. http://www.thelog.com/DigitalArchive

If you go to the link, you will see on the right side of the screen some boxes. Two might help. One is a 2016 to harbors, and the other is a slips guide from Alaska to way south. They are download links.

Re: Guide to US Pacific coast ports?

+1 on George Benson's book! Especially good if you want to stay inshore and see the coast. It is self published, but his widow still has some and is happy to sell it to keep his memory alive and honor his hard work in documenting the trip.

Best time to leave is later summer for close to shore.

I am not home for a few days, but if you need a contact, pls PM me.

Re: Guide to US Pacific coast ports?

Thank you all, and Tenchiki, Captain Puget - yes, it was George Benson's book I was thinking of. I've emailed his widow, and I look forward to poring over it!
