Eastern Caribbean to NYC, earliest?

I am in eastern Caribbean and need to get back to Lake Ontario in Canada as soon as possible (preferably with my boat).

I see that the erie canal opens mid May.

I am thinking of sailing to bermuda then NYC.
Possibly leaving the boat somewhere on the Hudson, before the canal opens, and coming back later to bring the boat through the canal.

I think I can sail to Bermuda any time now, but what would be the earliest for the Bermuda to NYC leg ?

Also, any info on storing a boat in Bermuda, incase I get stuck with bad weather and have to fly home from there ?

Did Florida to Annapolis mid March. If the wind is out of the North you’ll be sorry you didn’t wait

Approaching Bermuda you will have pretty high risk of catching a cold front and strong N winds in March/April and still a chance into May. It would not be a pleasant experience.

If I had to get north asap I would probably head towards the Bahamas any time of year. You can wait for weather windows and there's plenty of places to wait out a front if/when one hits. Then work my way up the east coast where again, you can wait out the weather plus have plenty of options for leaving a boat.

Wouldn’t it be faster to make a straight shot from st.martin or BVIs to North Carolina or somewhere in that vicinity?

Sailed from St martin to lake worth inlet fla in early April last year, off the wind almost the whole way but ne 20 to 30 for a few days, as I was heading west and not north it was not bad. 1140 miles in 9 days

Yes but the OP is talking about leaving as soon as possible. This time of year there's really high odds that you'll hit a bad front heading that far north. Safer option is to take a route that leaves you close to places where you could duck in and take cover when (not if) a front hits.

Re: Eastern Caribbean to NYC, earliest?

Where would be good places on the US east coast to shoot for in March.

I may need to leave the boat and fly home, so access to an airport would be good.

Norfolk/Hampton

Easy access to the airport.

Charleston too.

Annapolis if weather is good. Close to BWI
