deck shoes.

I started wondering if others have the same shoe size problem that I have.

It seems that the shoe makes have it in for us extended sized boat shoe users.

I have a very hard time finding my size shoes and I have spent a lot of time looking on the web for big wide deck shoes.
Does anyone know who sells deck shoes in size 14 WW (4E) ?

Thanks.

One answer: crocs.

They are the ultimate deck shoe, and I will never go back to those stinky Topsiders. Topsiders are expensive, take forever to dry, stink, and the bottom stays sticky for about a year then hardens up. I think the only reason people buy them anymore is because everyone else has them and they go hand-in-hand with a little model ship sitting on your desk at work (and maybe a cloth belt with code flags, wrapped around a set of khakis).

I have very wide and flat feet, and the XXL fits me nicely. I can move them around on my feet side to side: really spacious. I have a pair of the khakis (not that obtrusive looking), and they come in sizes all the way up to 17.

Here in Aus, "Choice' magazine did a test of all the boating/sailing shoes. Their conclusion was pretty surprising - the best shoes were - Dunlop Volley tennis shoes. Dirt cheap, so cheap they are virtually disposable, but they said they had the best wet grip, and dried out quickly when wet. They are available in lots of sizes too.

It is much easier to go to town in shoes that fit!

I did break my toe on the foredeck hatch a couple of years ago while barefoot. I ware shoes up there now.

Yeah, I stub my toes on the genoa cars regularly but there's nothing like going barefoot. On occasion I've dinked halfway into town and had to go back to the boat for shoes.

I found that New Balance sells large boat shoes! I ordered Two pair!
The Croc's site says that they have shoes to size 17 but I can not figure out how to order them. My Wife works for West Marine and now that she know's that Croc's come in larger sizes she will special order them. This may be the first year that I will have more than one pair of boat shoes!!

I cant see spending the big bucks on boat shoes. Regular tennis shoes work just as well. Yes I am aware of the theory behind Top Siders special soles...but thats all it seems to be, theory.

When on my friends boats in the past, I was just barefoot or wore disposable converse shoes with clear soles.

I think when I finally do get my own boat, for the launch I will wear the A typical outfit that everyone expects people wear as a hobby yachter.

Captain's Cap
white shirt with anchors printed on the cuffs
Blue blazer with large golden anchor on left breast pocket
Khakis with sharp pleats
Elastic belt with flags on the entire surface
topsiders shoes
Classic whale bone pipe

If I missed anything please add to my launching day apparel.

Mustache, cigarette holder and very toothy grin a la Terry Thomas.

So, lemme get this straight, your belt was eaten by a large black gentleman who speaks words that sometimes rhyme set to really bad music.

Very odd indeed.

.
I am never sailing with you whilst you are nearly Nakid!
Wheres your tie, you heathen! And only a tie with the yacht club burgee emblazoned on it will suffice.

And where are your cuff links? Whats this printed on the cuffs stuff? They should be gold cuff links with anchors... or more club burgees.

And for when its jolly cold a Cable knit white woolen jumper (or at worst, navy blue) with embroidered anchor or yacht club burgee on left chest.

I commend you to the site Captain's Uniforms, Yacht Club Uniforms, and more...

There are some other images that are a good guide to propper dress as it was in 1939 and I am pleased to say nothing has changed!

As for Crocs...... they should be banned from the poop deck but are fine for galley slaves and the foredeck.
