sorry David sold just before your request

Seems that mayybe even with the higher upfront cost of the alum material the TIME/SPEED to completion can be much faster, also so many things can be fabricated as well with out backing plates bolts etc.

Just seems to me that over all Alum has advantages in SPEED time to finish options of purchase or fabricated parts.

so my thoughts are the time to build / cost is much better in a custom 55-60 catamaran

Even the tools required are less, and more moneyy for pro welding gear and classes on how to weld.

Would be interested in your views, on Building in Aluminiumn with a TWIST

    Hi David,

You wrote this comment in a post I was reading.

If you really do want to build your own, then I would choose aluminum...and dont paint it. ....

I am going to build a CAT have actuallyy purchased the plans to several cats but the 2 I am looking closelyy at is the Dudley DIX DH55 Plwood/Epoxy and Divillers DVD 62 Aluminumn, But this is not the ordinary question of Ply Vs Alum Vs Steel.. I have built several boats in myy life at age 58 I want build one more, Never built in Aluminumn,

It seems besides all the Pros and Cons the thing I see from my past is as yyou build the job is also finished, and you never need to return back there as yyou would in ANY other material, such as sanding adding another layer etc.

What people never talk about is how may times yyou do the same job, over and over again, and the consumable cost associated with a job, also as the jobs get smaller the consumable/wasteage gets even biggger.

I am offended by the ad within the forum from NEWSMAX! I feel that it is bias and has no place here. When I vote in favor of Obama it fails to post the results in my email as promised.
If this forem is of a political slant please advise

Edit: We keep politics out of this forum as much as possible. Although there are of course people with their own political ideas involved in CruisersForum, CruisersForum itself has no political slant.

    Hi, David,
I'm a fairly recent member of your website.
I wonder if you'd mind having a look at at a comment posted by a guy called "Sparky" on a thread I started that was headed, I think, "Mature woman sought". (I may have the wording slightly out).
I don't think I have to comment on it myself beyond the response I have already given. As a Moderator, your position may not be quite the same.
Thank you for a very pleasant and useful website. I really enjoy it!

Velux 5 Oceans is the oldest solo round the world yacht race. Run every 4 years since 1982, the race is the longest event and hard for a person in any sport. With one hand around the ocean in boats racing thoroughbreds represent the final odyssey. The ultimate in human activity, only 90 people have so far completed the challenge. Creative event planning to create images and scenes that skippers closer to the people and promote the reality of the strong brand promise of "The Ultimate Solo Challenge

Hello. As you are a moderator, and the closest to me in location, I thought I'd email you this question: I love your forum, but would like to delete my account - and all of my posts (there are very few of them). There is no "delete" button on my posts when I log on, nor is there an easy way to delete my posts/account. I may rejoin later, but would like to rejoin under another name - my boat name. How can I do this? I appreciate your help, and the forum here - it's a wealth of information indeed. Cheers.

    Cruising Crew Wanted
USCG Captain with extensive experience is looking for guest crew on a 1980, 37ft Irwin Center Cockpit sailboat with all the amenities, in excellent condition and equipped for cruising. Skipper has a fairly laid back character and loves to laugh, but doesn’t smoke and smoking is not permitted anywhere on board. Vessel U Got A B Kiddin is presently in charter service and that will end in September. For more details PM me.
Skipper doesn’t drink alcohol, but allows guests occasional wine for dinner, drinking in moderation… as where we cruise, there is no safety net. Menu not extensive, but I'm working on that 50 dollars per person per day towards expenses would cover most things. The Basic rules of picking up after yourself, completing the communal chores and a personal sense of hygiene is a must.
