Something Truly Evil Has Moved in Behind Me

Today l got home from work and two moorings behind me is the most foul, horrible smelling boat on the planet. l just don't understand what could possibly have been done to that poor little boat that would make that smell happen. My boat was a sea lion home for a few weeks before l bought her. But even her stench is NOTHING compared to the evil smell from hell behind me. l'm afraid to go inspect it closer, for fear that the reality of what is really wrong with it will be worst that l can even fathom.

Is there anyone living on the boat? Maybe you should check for bodies.

Is the vessel occupied? Should you report the smell as a possible incident of death? I think that this might be a time to make an inquiry with the local marine authorities.

At a minimum, even if you don't think it's time to get the police involved (that would depend on what kind of smell it is, I think), could you report it to the marina owners? They might want to know about something that's making their liveaboard slips so unlivable.

We had a couple of food cans rust through when gone and spoil in hot weather I thought I would pukejust pulling the dink up when we got back. If it smells bad but kinda sweet in prob is a body.

If it just moved in and was smelling then there is probably an active owner somewhere. I think approaching the marina and complaining about the situation might get them to investigate and maybe even take some action.

If they are unwilling or unable to handle it, then take the next steps, whatever they might be.

Tell the marina owner/manager. Failing that call the cops or the public health/environment agency/local council.

I agree with talking to the Harbormaster and letting it become his or her problem. Its not right to have a foul smelling boat that makes life miserable for the surrounding berthers.

KateJoy, you are on a boat... just move to another mooring further above wind and keep the lights on at night

Windows 7 has smellavision, just scratch the sceen with your finger nail, get up close to the monitor and sniff it. You can actually smell what the poster describes. On mine it smells like a decaying body or maybe a cheese factory.

I recall at my old marina they had a pump out at the next marina over. I was down wind when a large power boat came up for a pump out. I mean I was a good 1/4 mile away and I almost lost my lunch. Stink pot had a whole new meaning.
