If this forum has an owner than this forum can be developed and sold, so while Andy R is doing a great job and presumably not being paid a salary, I would assume he intends to cash out at some point.
I, for one, have no problem with this and wish him success.

Don't rule out having a shoreside crane pull your stern clear of the water. Bit of a lift with a Yankee Clipper, but it should be possible with a 15 ton crane.

That's right! Maybe this is the real intent of the Green label, to try to bring some of us in line

Thanks Andy!
Glad to be a CF junkie. Now you've added another vice to my life.

Pity your algorithms can't measure the quality of posts rather than the quantity.

I'd kind of like to address what cliffdykes, GeoPowers and Springbok have brought up. You're right, it is quality and not quantity. On some forums I've been on a few guys have tons of posts ... but only on politics, jokes and things where any opinion if fine; it makes you wonder if they ever sail(ed). I've seen one guy with reportedly thousands of miles under under his keel but you would never know it since his comments don't show any real experience, research or anything other than an affinity for one-liners, rim-shots, and emoticons. Conversely, the constant emphasis on quality is tough to do. Personally, when I find someone whose thoughts I really respect, I read everything they write.

That said, agreeability and persistence have value too. But what Andy (or whoever did the selection) is really left with is either: "what's quantifiable?", "who do I/we like?" or an attempt at being fair -- however that's defined -- since you can't get to know everyone. Like it or not (and I think I've made my view clear) the number of posts and time on the forum are going to be a large part of it.

From my position, I'd like to think this is some sort of recognition that I try to impart good stuff to others, but it realize it may not be. But I'm still going to do my best regardless because I find it it's own reward. I think the same is true for others, regardless of the little green tag or not. I've learned tons from the members on this board, including some that have left it. There is a critical mass of experience here that is tough to find elsewhere. If I want to find out about something technical about a new set of electronics, I can to Panbo. But about 20% of the comments are by people here. That's tough to replicate and it's why I like this place. As for the upgrade, the real benefit for me is not having to clear out my PM box so much. The discounts are possible but, not done yet. In other words, for the real value is what I've already received, not a tag.

As much as I'd like to end with a really witty DOJ-like comment, I'm going to have to fall back on another serious comment since I'm not really all that clever. If you see the intention of the tags as good (or smart if you think it will induce others to actually financially support the board) then there is no reason to put Andy in the position of No Good Deed Goes Unpunished (er, rather uncriticized) regardless of the implementation.

Andy R: Thanks for not making me clean out my inbox so much.

The tune that comes to mind is by Kermit of the Muppets, "It's Not Easy Being Green".

I haven't been here long, and had no idea this forum was privately owned. THANK YOU ANDY, it is informative and very useful! I don't know anywhere else(LOL) that 90% of the posters can tell me how terrible my boat is, but here it happens all the time! THANK YOU AGAIN ANDY FOR ALL YOU DO!

More bah humbug

My initial bah humbug in post #3 was for the green badge 'innovation'.

This bah humbug is for most of the responses of the annointed which followed. Seriously, there is a whole PhD in this thread alone. The fawning and R Slicking and the cringing obsequiousness of many of the annointed is ready evidence for the old adage about giving a bloke a uniform. Or maybe it's the massive saving off the retail price of $14.95?

Maybe some of you don't realise that CF is a business just like any other, and that this is the shopfront. It ain't pure charity, you know...every one of us adds to the bottom line.
