Oh Boy! Another IN group I get to not be part of. Good to know though that I can buy my way in for only a few $$.

Now I understand why it took so long for the burgees to be offered for sale.

Seriously, I admire the contributions of (mostly) all who have gotten the "award". They deserve kudos. And I'll pay, 'cause I get much more from this site than from certain others I pay membership on. I guess it's just too late for me to work hard to be more worthy - I'll just continue as the slacker I am.

My apologies to any members who felt left out by not getting a free upgrade. As I mentioned in the first post various metrics were used, including post count, tenure, recent activity and other items.


This new upgraded account offering was not intended to create any clicks and I really don't think it will. It will not effect the experience of any existing members since everything is exactly the same as it was before this change.

If you desire some of the perks of upgrading your account, hang tight, you will soon be able to upgrade and help support the ongoing development of new tools for our community.

What is this? A Scam or Spam? Who is this Randy A guy? No indication that his is an administrator or even a moderator. The original post appears yesterday
And what is FREE? - from his post #1 "The cost of the Supporting Member upgrade is a modest $14.95/year."
It sure smells of a spam/scam.
What do the owners and/or moderators think of this guy from Brazil?
And how is he messing with our "profiles"? I thought you had to have our password to change our profiles.
He blankets us with PM's and gives no identification of any position with the owners or webmasters of CF.

Andy is a site admin and this is legitimate.

Andy - Thanks for clarifying
- - Just a suggestion though that such PM's, etc. should include some form of identification rather than being from "out of the blue." There is no end of such "you have won a free . . . send $xx" drifting around the internet and email systems. Even including a "link" can be dangerous as they are easily spoofed and you end up getting sent to a malacious site.

You seem to have transposed a few letters in your fit of pique. Did you mean to ask, "Who is this Andy R guy?"

I can confirm that Andy R owns the forum. Since 2004 he's been providing this service to the cruising community, working long hours to make it the predominant cruiser's forum on the internet. Every time we have a software upgrade, a new feature such as the iPad application, a new component such as the Cruiser's Wiki, Andy is the fellow who develops it. He's the guy who sets the vision and tone of this site, working with the administrators and moderators to try to get the forum just right. He's the guy who the Board of Advisers advises.

When the users requested a CF burgee, Andy was the fellow stuck with having to design it, having to order it, and having to come up with a system to distribute it.

If this whole thing seems like a scam to you, it's probably because you are unaccustomed to the generosity Andy R has shown the registered users who have helped build this site. Those who have been designated "CF Supporters" will be able to pick up a CF burgee at Andy's cost. He won't make a dime for the work he's put into the design, acquisition, and distribution of these burgees to CF Supporters.

That's who Andy is.
