Russian spy ship right in my next rumb line

So I'm about to do the next leg. Myrtle Beach to St. Augustine. Going solo this time. And my friend sends me this article...

Make obscene gestures to them. They are not nice people. Also, they are probably using you and your electronics as training for new spies. I would not be surprised if they had already gone through your computers and cell phones and nav equipment with their scanners.

Do Russian seafarers say the same thing about American Submariners sneaking about off Murmansk?

They are all ways out there, even used to come into port in Savannah at least in the 80’s every now and again.
Used to be “fishing” trawlers covered in antennas
But they always ran their nav lights etc., for some reason this one isn’t.
For whatever reason Russian Military is being a lot more aggressive, with their aircraft and I guess their ships as well.

Just google aggressive Russian fighter jet, you’ll get many hits, even videos of close passes over ships.

Re: Russian spy ship right in my next rumb line

A couple friends used to work for companies that built spy equipment. They couldn't talk about current technology. However the old stuff that was declassified (over 20 years old) was amazing at the time.

Speakers can be listened to (any speaker, not just smart devices).

Your screen and keyboard are easily monitored.

It just takes money, time and effort. They are wasting all of it if they are watching me!

Thx-Ace

They are probably operating 200mi. off shore so I doubt it would cause you a problem.

Re: Russian spy ship right in my next rumb line

My dad’s submarine, the USS Greyback, sat on a communication cable between the motherland and Murmansk and attached a listening device (spyware)! This espionage stuff been going on forever. That was back in the 60’s. Guam was used as a huge listening station with massive arrays.

What was the name of the spy ship captured by North Korea that embarrassed the heck out of USA? This stuff goes on and on.

You boat's not the USS Pueblo, is it?

What's your off-hand feeling about depth charges?

Maybe they were acting erratically to avoid their subs..

Along this line, I read a terrific page turner a few years back that described US sub operations against the USSR during the cold war. It was incredible and I came away with an impression of who was really sticking it to who (not that we'll ever hear the other side of the story!)

Re: Russian spy ship right in my next rumb line

18 years ago I was motoring up to L.A. from San Diego and when I was 1.5 miles off the coast from Camp Pendleton, I got a Vhf directive from the U.S. Navy to do a series of turns.
'Found out later they were monitoring a Russian sub that was staying under boats on the surface to "hide".

I'd be tempted to get in their vicinity, pick up the mic every once in a while, and transmit a random string of numbers.
