Heading Sensor via USB works only after "Apply" is pressed?

Hi
running OpenCPN 5.8.4.0. Works great, but the, via USB connected Quark-Elec QK-AS08 heading sensor needs to be reminded of it's presence every time I boot up OpenCPN.
Only when I go into the connection settings, don't change anything there, but press "Apply" the heading gets displayed. It stays functional than for that session.

I need to do this every time I start OpenCPN though.

Any chance to make OpenCPN remember it's presence.

Serial connection.

Thank you for any remedy.
