Frankly, none of my boats were a waste of time and money. I loved each of my monohulls, just as I love my current catamaran. IMO both have their advantages and disadvantages and, while my current boat best suits my anticipated needs for the forseeable future, I could also forsee a day when I would be in the market for another monohull: relatively small with a keel, a tiller, low freeboard, modest beam, a sweet sheer and cozy, but warm overnight accomodation. There is something about not only the appearance, but the 'feel' one gets in sailing such a boat that still does it for me.

Were any of my boats perfect? Of course not, but then all were at least structurally sound and suitable for my budget and intended use. Did others get better deals along the way? Of course so, but then all of my boats were priced within the market range at the time of purchase. In the final analysis I do not regret the purchase of any of the boats I have owned; quite to the contrary, I loved and learned invaluable lessons from each and every one.

I put a Wallas 40D furnace in my boat. I may get the "kinks" out of the ducting so that it is more effective but even if I do I'm not crazy about the fan noise. They are supposed to be more effective for larger boats then a fireplace but I don't really care about heating the whole boat, I care about heating the salon and I think the radiant heat from a fireplace would be better suited to me. This bit of too late arrived at wisdom would also have saved me money.

Funnily enough, this verbalized the process I am going through. I still lust after a nice mono with sensational lines, but right now, a cat is the solution to my needs, unfortunately it took me 2 years to figure that out, but fortunately I did get to drool over a lot of lovely mono's in the process.

If you know Zee she didn't mean to step on toes. Her boat is her favorite, as I hope yours is for you.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have joined the merchant marines after leaving the military, and retired on the sea in my own sailboat by now, (mono or cat), with decades of foreign ports under my belt.

i believe i didnt step on any toesies--some of my best friends own and sail multihulls ..i just enjoy my boat and feel safer at sea in and on her her than in or on any other boat i have ever sailed.
enjoy your life and dont presume anyone is bashing when in fact they are not. especially when, in going back thru the posts, i do not see anything at all directed at or toward you from my typoing paws..

Never ever buy a wooden sailboat unless I was super rich..have owned 2 and never sailed either one..the first was a 40 ft'er and the second a Old Town Whitecap so even small wooden boats can cost lots of money to maintain...sure were nice looking thou..DVC

I would not buy a project boat.
I would ask myself how much the latest gadget will cost each time i use it. then decide if i really need it. Then spend my money on buying the things i will use ALOT, and buy the god stuff in those. I would not try to make a boat perfect.... it never will be.
