Frankly, I'm surprised that the mast is still standing. I'm considering booking a flight to go look at it.
At 15k get a purchase survey . ( Not an insurance survey) ( usually cheaper) If it were under 5k I would forgo a survey. Also specify engines pass an oil analysis. Those will cost less than a hundred for the engines

OK so ths girl is at the high end of the range for this thread and needs work:

But Tayana 37's are very popular for offshore cruisng and have probalby logged more circumnavigations than anything in their class so she mght fit the bill for someone.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

$30,000 - Charley Morgan 41 Keel/Centerboard in Falmouth, Maine

Selling my lovely 1969 Morgan 41, Grace O’Malley. This boat has been professionally maintained, was in the water and cruised all summer until last Friday when she was hauled for the winter, cruised to the Bahamas in 2020/2021, and has over 80k in upgrades in the past 3 years.

She is a sweet sailing boat. Similar lines to a B-40, but much faster.

She is ready to cruise. Here in Maine, back to the Caribbean, or anywhere.

Perkins 4-108 rebuilt in 2009, hours unknown.

Over the past three years, she has been fitted out for long-term cruising including all new plumbing and pumps, water tanks, engine upgrades, water maker, lithium batteries, solar array, high output Balmar 160amp alternator, new autopilot, rebuilt centerboard, new centerboard pennant, new dodger, cushions, lifelines, Vesper Marine XB-8000 AIS and NEMA gateway, Furuno radar, Sail-o-Mat windvane, and much more.

She was professionally Awlgripped in 2021 and sports a custom four-blade Featherstream feathering prop.

Please see my listing in classifieds or PM me for a link with tons of photos and a full upgrades/equipment list.

Why am I now selling this boat for 30k?

1. I am buying another, bigger boat because I have 4 children;
2. I was under contract on this boat, but the buyer didn’t follow through;
3. My wife will actually kill me if we end up owning two large sailboats over the winter; and
4. It’s a horrible time of year to sell a boat.

The caveats:

1. I need to close by November 3;
2. For 30k, I’m keeping the lithium batteries, Spectra watermaker, and non-permanently attached solar and putting it on my new boat. The buyer can have the AGMs that come with my new boat;
3. The guy who was under contract bailed because he didn’t like the transmission oil analysis, or so he says (I can share). The transmission and engine run perfectly, however. She leaks some oil like any 4-108 but she was just sea trialed and the British mechanic who was on board concluded that “she runs fine” and “appropriate for her age.”
4. The mast step needs work, but it is a very straightforward project. The step itself is fine; however, there is an unfortunate steel plate underneath that needs replacement. The part of this plate supporting the mast is actually fine, but attached to a corner of the plate is a block handling the centerboard pennant. The corner is shot.
5. The buyer takes over the winter storage contract at Handy Boat in Falmouth—or you have can have them launch the boat and head to the Bahamas.
6. 30k firm. The price reflects a significant discount from what she is worth. You will not find a boat like this, for this price, and in this condition.

I purchased Grace O’Malley in 2020 and spent over 80k and countless hours restoring her. My family of 5 (now six) lived aboard during peak Covid and cruised Florida and the Bahamas. I would keep her forever but she doesn’t have the space for our crew. She’s looking for someone else to take her on another adventure.

It's been for sale for at least a year that I know of.

The exterior's really tired. A lot of that wood's pretty dead-looking. Do the hatches leak? (There's a Sunbrella cover on the sliding companionway hatch).

No dodger, bimini, shade or awning. Perhaps that's normal out there?
I'm not a bit fan of that style of wheel, or of the mizzen mast in the cockpit.

Good info for any potential buyer! I hadn't noticed it advertised. Should make for a hefty discount off the asking price then

That stuff is usually not on the boat in summer here it's more of a winter sailing kit..
Exterior wood not tired just end of season work needed for winter.

As to mizzen mast location that's how you get a ketch in a 32 ft hull.

OK, this is an eBay auction so no telling what final price will be. But current bid is $465, which looks good to me! Boat doesn't look half bad.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

For those in southern California, there is a Cal 29 in mechanically great shape, though cosmetically in need, for sale in Santa Barbara. Yanmar diesel very low hours. Radar. It has had a lot of work done over the years. There are 30' slips in Channel Islands harbor, and maybe Ventura. Asking price is $10k but owner has another boat to move into the slip so the Cal will have to go soon, probably out to the anchorage. It is listed with Chandlery Yacht Sales. The rigger who worked on her is a good friend of mine and he sings the boat's praises (calls it "sleeper of the century") and knows every strength and weakness of this boat. PM me and I can give you what I know of the boat too if interested.

1974 Morgan O/I 33 Shallow draft near Toronto, ON Cdn $19K (~$14K US).

It seems like a capable boat, newer diesel.

I think we saw this a while ago (who could forget the owls!) but there seems to be a genuine reason for the sale.

A wooden boat? A ferrocement boat? A steel boat?
All of them may have their place, there may be good examples, but not the best long-term cruising boats.
Especially old, neglected ones.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

Remember the guy on Lady K is just giving his opinion. He has no secret insider information. You can find good and bad examples of almost any brand. Other peoples opinion can and will vary.

The main thing to look at is condition. And make sure you are looking at boats that are right for what you want to use them for. A good way to do that is to try and see what boats are already doing the things you want to do, and then go look for one of those.
