When I saw that Ingrid 38 go for $5K I thought I'd faint, "Be still my heart".

Super depressng. All those neglected boats. And you think, at some point each one of those was probably someone's pride and joy.

13HP engine on a 14,000lb boat? That engine will barely move it.

I went around the world in a Alberg 30, 9000lb boat. Powered by a 6hp outboard. It was good enough for the Panama Canal at 5.2kts. 13hp should be fine.

They listed that boat as an Ingrid 38. It was neither an Ingrid or Alajuela. It is a Bentley 38 which was the Taiwan knock-off and came with all the Taiwan boat problems.

Don't faint...It's a Taiwan Bentley 38. Trust me...you do not want one of those.

Not really. They are designed Herb David and actually sail much better than the 32 and have a much finer entry. Not a lot of beam either like the 32, so it requires less effort to go through the water. Your IP29 has a 10.83' beam, the WS28 has a 9.58' beam. Guess which one needs the larger engine.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

I met Herb David along time ago , at Ca.s' Catalina Two Harbors . We were already tied to a can , Herb comes and he's steering a 44' Lancer . (motor sailor he also designed) He's telling me what a good boat I have and that after he gets tied up he wants to come over and talk , I said thanks for the compliment and sure lets talk . He comes over sculling a Sabot side ways and then climes onto the boat mid ship , he sits down and we talk . But at first not about boats , first he lectured me on the benefits of quitting smoking cigarettes . We finally start talking boats , among a lot of things he told me he designed the W28 for two people to sail around the world on .
Here is a interesting project , almost under 30K . Note the engine .
