37, been out cruising for one year too learn what works for us. The push now is to leave again in 10 years with lessons learned.

Look at that, close to a bell shaped curve in the poll.

Re: POLL: So what is the age here? MERGED

I'll try to make this more absurd...or something. Let me put it this way, if I were say, oh a 45' cruising sailboat, you would want to buy an anchor more than my weight in pounds...but then some would say, no, that's not enough--are you nuts!...while others would argue it would be okay for a lunch hook...or its too much....while others would say only if I were a Fortress but not for a Delta. ...or something like that...I think... how about this...if I were a compass card I would be somewhere north of east...but aren't about 99% of us? Ok. I'd be a bit east of northeast but not much....let's see, if my age in years were your mast height, you could go down the ICW and clear the fixed bridges..I think...maybe not one or two...but if you were transiting the Cape May Canal...it would be too close for comfort.... there are many popular models in my length but I dont think Catalina had one...any guesses?????

Re: POLL: So what is the age here? MERGED

wasn't there a poll recently on type of sailing - ie none, stay at the dock, weekend, racer, cruiser ect --- be interesting to overlay the two - as my hypothesis would be that the older the more cruisers

I agree with above sometimes the responses seem to indicate that some folks are not sailors

oh by the way - I am 68 going on 32

it is actually more fascinating than you can believe -- but this is the wrong thread to talk about it -- and yea we did a 2 person crossing of the atlantic last may and NO arc no crew -- just the 2 of us -

Certainly not after they have read some of the threads on anchoring...

47. Very very sad I only discovered sailing a year ago. 2-4 miles out of Monterey, CA harbor on a sailboat is simply magical and intoxicating.

So...it looks like 70 (or earlier) is the age by a hich most people have quit? It would be interesting to see a poll about why people stopped cruising. Or maybe they just don't post in forums anymore?

We need to make a distinction here .

The poll simply indicates the age groups of CF members who have read this thread and are willing to take the time to respond to the poll.

It does not give broad information about the age of all members, let alone the age of cruisers (not one and the same) .

Re: POLL: So what is the age here? MERGED

Well, we have a pretty evenly declining population on either side, centered around the 50's. But as someone pointed out earlier, it represents people participating in Cruisers Forum, not people out on boats with better things to do :-) But I think the original questions what indeed about participants in the forum, so there we have it.

Understood.

It's also possible that it's past bedtime for the older set and they haven't seen the poll yet..or maybe they're still trying to remember how old they are.
