So far, the bar graph forms a near perfect triangle.

35 myself. Not sure where that puts me in the grand scheme.

Depends on what they're doing, I find. My brother and I have found quite a lot of fun on his inexpensive trailer sailer O'day around the lakes near us.

Of course, we both are awaiting our opportunities to go bigger and better, and farther. Then again, I've also noticed that around here, the interest in sailing at the younger ages seems to be dwarfed by those wanting ski-boats and Jetskis.

Re: Poll: How old are you

How do I add in the three boats - out of 11 - here in my anchorage that have "kids" under 30 who survive by odd jobs and probably don't have the time or money or inclination to be on line and contribute to this forum?
Young sea-gypsies they are, waiting out the cyclone season then bound for ports a'far...

Voting for this anchorage:

70+ = 3 (single guys) = 3 boats
60+ = 4 (two married couples; one on her own) = 3 boats
50+ = 1 (partner of a 60+ guy noted above)
40+ = 1 (single guy) = 1 boat
30+ = 0
30 - = 5 (two couples; one on his own) = 3 boats
abandoned sailboat = 1

I suppose I added all this because if they made it HERE to American Samoa, then they've proven themselves as sailors and cruisers.

I'll shut up now...

Re: Poll: How old are you

Two things,

1. The poll has not been up long enough to ensure those of us who are still at the office have had a chance to reply, which is going to knock the age demographic just a bit. And those of us young enough that our first chance to reply will be when the kids are all in bed and we've finally sat down on the sofa with the ipad.

2. Just over the weekend I was thinking how interesting it would be to find out about the professions (current or retired) of CF members. Has this been done/asked before? I think I have noticed some odd clusters, for instance, quite a few aviation types...

... yes and no. I sometimes think the skiboat thing seems to hit the older guys around me, once the kids are 20 or so, some kind of mid life crisis hits where there simply is not enough horsepower in ANY boat. They rush off and buy V8 ski boats and tow them around with Ford F100's or similar.

svmariane, I don't think this is a census for determining everyone's age in your marina, but rather the forum

Re: Poll: How old are you

Being a bit older, I have enough experience to be able to do a lot of work myself. Been messing with mechanical stuff for decades now. Figure there are a lot of "folks" in the same...boat. Makes ownership a bit easier.

Not at all implying that there are not some motivated young'uns out there. Certainly are!

Anchorage - not marina. The slips in the local "marina" are barely large enough for an 8 metre boat!

But I take heed of your point!

Apologies to all.
