Jimske....
Short:
Raster charts are pictures, like scanned paper charts, where the picture file has a got a texted heading to tell the chart program, like OpenCPN, about used chart format and positioning data for the picture.
Vector charts are more like a CAD drawing with layers for different features like depth, lights, marks etc. That's why you can control what's shown using a vector chart but not for a raster.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

Somehow I clicked something and got the letter "U" with it outlined all over my charts. Can't seem to find out how I did it. Can someone please tell me how I got it and (how to remove) and also what it means?

Thanks again!

Jim

BTW. The BU 353 S4 seems to work real well. Not on the move just yet though.

Jim...

You did it when you turned on "Quality of data" symbols if using the "Mariner's standard" display category, or ticked the "Chart Information Objects" checkbox if using the "All" display category.
More info and instructions on how to turn them off again is in the FAQ here: https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do..._over_my_chart

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

Hi Guys,

I just tried to update from 4.4, the install went smooth until i opened 4.8. there was so much lag it was UN-usable. I uninstalled it (forgot to save the config file) and re-installed it from scratch and it was still super slow, wouldn't respond to basic zoom comands.

We are sailing to Vanuatu in a couple of days so i have re-installed 4.4 and i'm just getting it all set-up now.

Wondering if this has happened to anyone else. and what i can do to fix the problem.

Windows 10, intel I5 6th gen with 16 G ram.....

There is no speed issue with 4.8.0. So it must be some options you have turned on. Or it could possibly be the detected screen size is not correct for your video system. On Options-Display->Advanced how many mm is your physical screen width? Is is approximately correct?

If you have smooth scrolling/zoom turned on and if you have the touch screen option turned on then zooms can be very small. They are still fast but so small it's hard to see the effect of a single zoom. See if you have any of these options turned on. Or if you like the touch concept then try a two finger pinch on the touch pad to zoom in or out.

I Have 4.4 and 4.8 installed in parralel at the moment,
The screen size is spot on.
I do have smooth scrolling ticked
I don't have a touch screen and i dont have the touch interface ticked

Its not just doing a small zoom its trying to zoom out and not responding. program crashing. 4.4 is fiiine

jpwales90...

It would be interesting to compare logfiles for the two instances of OCPN, run separately. Can you post them here?

Thanks
Dave

Would also be interesting to see the two opencpn.ini files.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

Hi again,
Thanks for that transmitterdan. I went and had a look for the seperate log and ini files in the programData folder there in only 1 in there. The LOG shows me running 4.4 and 4.8 at different times. At the end of the log when i switch to cm93 it starts to fail. not sure if you can see any funny business in the ini file...

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

Dave

When doing a new linux install from the repro, all four gshhs files are installed. It's impossible to uninstall one of them without getting rid of all recommended packages.
One should be enough! The "full" file is quite a big download.
The reason for this behavior comes from the control file in the deb package.
.....
Code:
Recommends: xcalib, xdg-utils, opencpn-doc, opencpn-gshhs-crude, opencpn-gshhs-intermediate, opencpn-gshhs-high, opencpn-gshhs-full]
....

I think that this should be changed to
.....
Code:
Recommends: xcalib, xdg-utils, opencpn-doc, opencpn-gshhs-crude
Suggests: opencpn-gshhs-intermediate, opencpn-gshhs-high, opencpn-gshhs-full
....

The crude file will be included by default, and if a user needs better resolution, the other packages are optional.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

Apologies if this is the wrong thread.

Ubuntu 16.04 64bit OpenCPN 4.8

The "Connections" menu box no longer shows the extent of available options i.e. I cannot scroll to the right and access the Sentence filtering menu buttons.

The problem only started yesterday. Might not be OpenCPN related? See attached.

Any ideas welcome.

Click the rectangular box with three dots in, to the far right in the picture above, to access filtering in a pop up dialog.
