Yes, you are missing
Code:
git checkout wxqt
to switch to the right branch. And maybe spending those 15 minutes at https://try.github.io/levels/1/challenges/1 would generally make your life with open source software a bit easier.

I didn't do an exhaustive search but couldn't find who makes the device. Note that the eBay price is a beginning bid for auction. But, check out AlieExpress 7 inch VIA8880 dual core 16:9 wide TFT LED screen 800*480 pixels 512MB/4G Android 4.2 tablet pc-in Tablet PCs from Electronics on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group Even cheaper and it's a 'buy' price. Search Aliexpress for the tablet. Amazing how prices vary. I've bought from AliExpress and have no complaints. Although the products are shipped from China delivery is fast.

First, no built-in gps which means you must be willing to use an external gps. The navigation app referred to uses your location provided by nearby wireless towers. Means you can't be queezy about always being tracked and is useless beyond reach of these towers.

Must be willing to install linux and OpenCPN on an external microSD card sine the tablet only has 4 gigabytes of space on the internal sdcard. Not hard to do.

Finally, a 10" screen size is going to be more satisfying.

My tablet keyboard doesn't work at the link. Tapping on the "git init"button works to enter the command, but no way to 'enter'...

Anyway,

root@localhost:/home/android/Downloads/OpenCPN# git checkout wxqt
Branch wxqt set up to track remote branch wxqt from origin.
Switched to a new branch 'wxqt'
root@localhost:/home/android/Downloads/OpenCPN#

What next?

Next you do whatever you want to do. Until now I thought you want to reproduce Dave's process described at the beginning of this thread.

Sean said: " I followed the instructions in the README in the wxqt branch of the main opencpn git repository.

"I built wxWidgets for wxqt for android armv7. I build opencpn linking to this, and the asset bridge library etc... I managed to build the apk fine, and installed to the android device, however, I had to regenerate Android.mk using qmake rather than using the checked in version or I always get java exceptions when opencpn starts (via adb logcat) ok... so now it runs, but it just sits there with a black screen, that's where I'm stuck."

Likewise, I'm following instructions in the 'README in the wxqt branch of the main opencpn git repository."

Compiled and installed Qt-5.3.2 from source.
Compiled and installed wxWidgets downloaded from the wxqt branch after setting up what I hope is a working android development environment suitable for my Xoom running Ubuntu Precise in chroot.

I'm having to diverge from the instructions in regard to toolchains and platform because I am not on an intel 32 or 64 system and am using gcc-arm-linux-gnueabihf to do the android specific compilations.

Now I'm at this point in the instructions:
F. Build OCPN

___Checkout the OpenCPN "wxqt" branch from github opencpn site.

See my previous post about am I missing something? I don't see any method to "Checkout the OpenCPN "wxqt" branch from github opencpn site."

I'm trying to contribute. You can either give me a hand or blow me off.

Makes no difference to me. I'm quite satisfied running OpenCPN on my Xoom as is.

Refer 3 posts back, that's how you checkout the branch. If the interactive git tutorial I also posted there does not work for you, I suggest you use another one that does. Like Git - Tutorial or the Git book at Git - Book

New MK808 Dual Core Android 4.1 Mini PC
From a hardware point of view, the biggest upgrade is of course the Dual Core Cortex A9 1.2 GHz Rockchip RK3066 CPU with Quad Core Mali 400 GPU that powers the MK808. Please note that some vendors claim the speed of the RK3066 is 1.6 GHz while others claim it is only 1.2 GHz.

Could use control for screen. Then need keyboard. Built in wifi and bluetooth with six axis gyroscope and accelerometer (future autopilot control?) Has a good processor A9 and Mali graphics.

I was thinking more about a mounted below deck solution instead of a tablet. I ended up ordering one for my kids to watch Netflix/YouTube on. If OCPN for android comes available Ill give it a try.

Seems like this may be the future of the on board PC. It does not use much space, has low power consumption and cost considerably less than windows based with similar performance.

Re: OCPN for Android Proof of Concept and Teaser....

I finally managed to build opencpn in a reliable way so it will run on android.

There are some serious issues:

No vector charts. The support builds but crashes. I can't figure out how to run the debugger yet.
UI not completely usable, not scrollbars where they are needed etc...
No translations
No Plugins - I don't know how this works on android
No OpenGL - I can't even get the qt samples to work in the emulator, for opengl, es, or es2)

There are other issues as well, but basically, it works ok for raster charts

Amazing! Can't wait to see OCPN running smoothly and seamlessly on Android! Does your build make use of the on board GPS?

Re: OCPN for Android Proof of Concept and Teaser....

It could make use of the onboard gps, but keep in mind I have no hardware running android, and no possibility to run android on hardware with an onboard gps as I have only usb gps. (I use linux on everything) so using the emulator I can't test gps.

I believe it doesn't work unless there is a serial device for it already, or a gpsd server.
