New Android app to link OCPN

Hi all. And first of all, Happy New Year!! and of course Fair Winds!!

I´ve been away for a while due to family illness etc... but hope to be back on a regular basis once I´ve catched up on what´s been happening here.

I´ve found a very promising Android based app by the name Vectir,which
connects to your laptop by WiFi. You just finger tap the OCPN functions,or use the mouse pointer which I find a little sluggish presently but is under improvement. Zoom in/out by finger-pinch. Move map in all directions with finger slide.

Just been playing around a bit more with Vectir and I am amazed at the number of features it has. Well worth looking into. One of the functions are like a TV controller,controll EVERYTHING from your smartphone/tablet.

But for us sailing people,the main thing is OpenCPN,and there will be many new features added especially for navigation purposes.

The developer,based in New Zealand is open to our suggestions,I have already made some.

Hi all...

I have been through the much improved test version of VECTIR and must
say I´m very impressed.

Basically VECTIR consists of two functions:

1. Connecting and controlling your laptop from an Android device in the cockpit by wifi.

2. Use as a remote, advanced touch screen mouse for your laptop or PC at home. Also have keyboard functions. If you have Chromecast HDMI or similar innstalled on your TV set,there are unlimited ways to connect to your PC, Android devices, YouTube and also your remote cloud drive,displaying the contents on your TV,all controlled by VECTIR on your smartphone or tablet by WiFi.

Imagine with just a smartphone in your hand,you can select your music from your favorite cloud as a show and display/control it on your TV.

You should try it out,and let me know if there are other features you would like included.
