Thanks for the reply. Are you referring to a standalone Voyage Data Recorder? If so, I was hoping to find a solution that could run on my laptop, because my end goal is to convert the data and use it for analytics. I was hoping that there would be a plugin for OpenCPN that would help me to store the data, then I can mess with it from there.

Thanks,

Gabe

Gabe.
Yes, VDR is saving all NMEA data to a .txt file.

If you look in the manual,(https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...ar_buttons:ais) you will find that this is how OpenCPN warns users that this is a

Ship which has lost fix - position unavailable. Displayed at the last known position.
If you do an AIS Target Query on this object you can see what's going on as the target is changing from Green to Grey, and then for short periods back to green again. Obviously they have a gps/AIS problem.

I think that the way OpenCPN handles this is superior to what Simrad is doing.

Re: Help / FAQ

Good Afternoon,
Has anyone been able to use a ChromeBook 3 (Samsung) with OpenCPN ? the program runs very nice, however I can not seem to get the GPS connected ( and the videos and directions work great on Windows machines however are not much help with the Chromebooks) I am trying to use the GPS/Glonass U-blox? Re: Help / FAQ

I'm having trouble finding the option to lock waypoints in 5.0.0.

The help page says: "You can move the mark by left-click-dragging it around. To prevent accidental movement of marks go to Options>Display>Advanced and click the box “Lock Waypoints”. But I don't see that click option.

Is it somewhere else?

On passage from BVI to Mexico via Jamaica for some inexplicable reason and without having touched anything, All my CM 93 (ver2) charts disappeared. All other chart directories were not affected.

Now back home, I've tried all sorts of options (force database rebuild, etc, etc) but they are not coming back. All suggestions gratefully received!! Tony

First of all we don't exactly know from where your charts have disappeared.

If you mean that they don't show up on OpenCPN then the next question is: Are they still in a folder on Windows? If not then you must recover that folder from some back-up or other source, then in OPenCPN remove the directory entry in the OpenCPN "Charts" Setting and the "Add Directory" to put the new one back in..

If O has some problem and won't allow you to successfully add the new chart directory back in, then you may have to re-install O.

This is what I'd try.

Hi Wingsail, thanks. They disappeared from Open cpn but are still in the folder on my computer. Trying to rebuild the database, all other folders of encs, rasters and vector charts load with no problem but the loading dialog does not show that its even trying to load them.

1. I would remove the CM93 directory from the OpenCPN chart list.
2. Then "Add Directory" and add the CM93 directory.
3. Do data base rebuild.

If this does work then re-install OpenCPN.

If that does not work you'll have to get help from the OpenCPN dev team.
