Re: Feature Requests

The "Reduce Data" feature for TRACKS is broken in this release - not sure when it broke. It turns the track into a straight line (like many miles long) regardless of the max error selected.

Re: Feature Requests

Actually the current version is unstable. I haven't used it in several months and hadn't upgraded in probably a year. I'm kind of sorry I did now. I have to restart the app every few minutes as it just bogs down and locks up.

Wolf, can you please define "current version"? And also your OS & machine?

The reduce data function for tracks works OK for me in OpenCPN V5.0 (the current released version) under Win10. I admit I haven't tried it in the Beta versions. V5.0 has been out for over a year & most people have found it very stable. If you're experiencing stability issues then you should explain them so the devs know about them. The squeaky wheel gets greased.

"...bogs down & locks up." Are you running big/lots of KAPs or mbTiles? Both of those have performance issues in V5.0 that are being addressed in V5.1.

One Wolf & Victor15: about a year ago I have made a request for this in Flyspray. You can find that request here:

https://opencpn.org/flyspray/index.p...rom=&closedto=

The text of my FS-request was:

------

FS#2556 - RM: option to show or hide all items in Routes, Tracks, Waypoints or Layers

What I really miss in Route&Mark Manager, is an option in the "Routes" tab to show or hide all items (in this case: all routes). The same goes for the tab "Tracks", the tab "Waypoints" and the tab "Layers".
Especially when you have a great number of routes or tracks, it is not practical if you have to select or deselect each route or track one by one in order to have them shown or hidden.
Maybe a button "Show All" and/or "Hide All" could be added?
The new feature in OpenCPN 5 (shortcut "V") is already a great step forward, but shows/hides all Routes and Tracks and Layers. Very often I want to hide all Tracks or Routes, but keep my Layers visible.
----------

Please VOTE for that FS-request, so that the priority might be put a little bit higher than it is now.

Nice, and will do. However I can't figure out how? I can see that it has 4 votes but can't figure out how I vote for it. I am old and dumb.

I don't use KAPs or mbTiles. I have a handful of routes, tracks, and waypoints - maybe 1000 miles of tracks, 50 miles of routes, and 500 waypoints. I wouldn't think that to be an issue. My charts are NOAA, which I refresehed and rebuilt. It locks every few minutes simply scrolling around and zooming in/out.

Re: Feature Requests

Perhaps you are building new senc files of new areas still?

You can force build all senx files but it will take a long time, but then it is done.

Re: Feature Requests

I guess the real question is what is the meaning of locks up? Is it momenary?

Old & dumb, well, I know how that feels...

On Flyspray you have to register first and then you have to log in. After you have logged in, you can vote. See the enclosed screenshots. And don't feel old and/or dumb if you need more help!

There is some more info on how to work with Flyspray in the FIRST post of this thread: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...110519-16.html

Okay it has 6 votes now! How many is "a lot" in these parts?

It's not monetary. It gets non-responsive and slows to a crawl and then eventually crashes. Here's a screen shot in the non-responsive slow mode and then another after the crash. I was scrolling and zooming when this happened.

Re: Feature Requests

The behaviour you are describing does not happen for most of us. I think you'll have to provide more information about your platform, the operating system, how you have installed OpenCPN and how you are loading charts.

Okay I can do that. Is this the right forum for me to be doing this?

Re: Feature Requests

Try turning off that route that I see (and all others) and advise what happens.
How do you have your charts setup. Are you using reasonably sized chart groups?
What exactly is your computer and graphics card and how much memory?

It's not really. It would be better to start a new thread in the general OpenCPN forum defining how your system is mis-behaving with the system and installation details we have suggested. Apart from anything else it will have a wider audience than this specialised thread
