BR24 radar plugin on RPi

I am trying to enable and use the BR24 plugin on my Raspberry Pi.
OpenCPN 4.8.8
Plugin 3.0
Pi model 3+

I prepared a cable from the RI10 interface box and connect it to the ethernet port on the Pi but can see no traffic. The plugin shows it is cycling through the ethernet interfaces as expected.

The problem is perhaps that my ethernet port does not have an IP address but try as I might I cannot find a way of assigning a fixed IP address to the interface (eth0).

Has anyone used the BR24 plugin with a Pi? If so how did you get it to work?

Many thanks

Yes I've and also the radar_pi adapted for O V.5. But I've not used the RI10 box but a direct connection from the radar to the PC.

Your eth0 must of course get an IP address in some way. So my first try would have been to the check that the eth0 can achieve a DHCP address.
Then, since I'm not aware of the RI10 logic I'd first tried to connect the radar IP cable direct to your Pi eth0 and see what's happening. If that works it's time to find the logic for the RI10 box and who is the DHCP master here.
BTW, I've a Pi that wont let the eth0 be connected if the wifi IP connection is active, so please test also to switch the wifi off for a test.
If that solves the problem we can look further from there.

Håkan

Thanks for your helpful reply.

I need to take the Pi to the boat to try your suggestions. Connecting directly to the scanner cable is a good idea, and the possible conflict with wifi is another point I can try.

Many thanks

In a very soon future O V5 official release will be ready. Then if you update from O 4.8.8 you need to switch to radar_pi instead of BR24Radar_pi.
Please stay tuned.

Can you even connect it directly to the ethernet port on a pc without a crossover cable?

Mine is connected via a switch, and then that and my computer are connected to a router. This works well, and still allows the radar to talk to the MFD which is also connected to the switch.

Most modern computers have a smart phy interface. These will automagically implement the crossover function. Try it and see. No harm can come from trying.

.
Yes that's how I do it. Or both the radar scanner and the PC to a switch.
