Other Cruising / Big Boat Forums

I searched around today and this site by far has more traffic than any other I found. Most get 2-3 posts a week, very lame.

Just so I can learn as much as possible, are there other good cruising related sites people here frequent. Specific to Southeast would be good, but any other sites would be good.

If this request takes away from the focus on this site, then ignore my request.

Sailnet is one that seems to be active but primarily for sailboats and I just don't know about powered boats. We have quite a few power folks here so you're welcome to stay and post with us.

Cruisersforum is by far my favorite and only one I frequent regularly.

Actually this site is one of the best. The only criticism that I might have is that the mods are a bit quick to exercise their authority. I sometimes think that a bit of heated discussion might be helpful. And if you check my record I have seldom entered into those heated discussions. They might just add a little spice to this site.

C'mon Mark, give the dude a break. He was just asking.

I am sure the moderators don't feel that threatened by such a request. OP did apologise in advance if people thought he was being out of line. Let this site stand on its own merits.

I know and visit most of the sites mentioned daily, when I am ground hogging for weeks at work in the middle of the ocean, but had never heard of cruisersforum.com. I just registered there and noted that a lot of people from here also lurk there. One can never stop learning and any individual site will not have ALL the answers.

I have found 'cruisers forum' to be very good. I will take this opportunity to inform the OP that I also like the forums at the cruising anarchy site.

BTW I would rather be sailing than numbing my bum sitting in this chair, as I have been doing for the last 3 weeks.

HO HUM 4 weeks to go and then I am off for a cruise on Peli.
North or South, I don't care. Cruisers never sail to windward, especially on a catamaran. I have promised the dog and the wife that I am not going to answer my mobile til Xmas.

I don't think it is all that impolite... the tag line up at the top says "Cruising Boats, Cruising People, Cruising Answers".

Looks to me like drumbeat is looking for answers. Fair enough question.

BTW if your into Hatteras boats you could do a lot worse than check out their owners forum... Hatteras Owners Forum & Gallery There is always someone there with the answer or happy to point you in the right direction.

This topic gets discussed all the time in the moderators forum. Believe me, none of us wants to have to eliminate or modify anyone's post. It almost always seems to get someone upset. Yet we do want to keep the discussions pretty much on topic, organized and free of blatant marketing. Occasionally even the moderators disagree with each other, eventually though we usually come to a consensus on the best action to take. There will always be that occasional situation where we realize we cannot make everyone happy. We really do try to make this forum a great place to visit and are always open to the members opinions and constructive criticisms on how to do so.

As far as letting heated discussions go, we do allow them. We let them go until they get to the point where either everything has been said, they are completely off topic, too many people are violating the rules or they are no longer constructive, usually the latter.

I believe that this policy concerning heated discussions, which to some occasionally seems a little heavy handed, makes Cruisers Forum a great place to visit.

I like spicy, but habanero peppers are to much for me. Unmoderated sites are habanero's, cruisersforum is like a banana pepper. I've gained a lot of "book" knowledge here and appreciate the efforts of the mods.

There hasn't been a high-end mass mutiny in a long time.
