Re: insufficient battery alternator charging for lithium battery

It would be great if this thread would not (as always with the topic of alternator) slide to the point that all should install a DC/DC. The initial question is, why do some marine alternators WITHOUT...

Re: Opinion choice between two cats

If you are indeed usually only two people on the boat, I would prefer an owner version. Personally, I would not want to do without the large cabin and the "bathroom". But depends a bit on the model....

SOG of Fountain Pajot 47

Dear owners of a Fountaine Pajot Saona 47 or Tanna 47

These catamarans are advertised as having speeds over 20Knts, and more than 17Knts SOG at 20Knts TWS.
My Lagoon 450 is the same length as...

Re: Broken bulkheads

Well, that's not really Lagoons' problem then. They are willing to fix it now. They do offer a reinforcement kit for every L450, even if the problem hasn't occurred yet. The installation is really no...

Re: Has anyone solved the Fischer Panda riddle?

Old issue but not noticed. The description of the problem says that the Gen often has starting problems and water in engine. If the engine does not start, e.g. because the battery is not full enough,...

Re: Merged LiFeYPO4 1000Ah Winston prismatic cells and all electric galley...

The problem with balancing not only on top is that each cell has its own individual charging curve. The one that bottoms out (without balancing) at around 3.4V may be the same one that tops out at...

Re: Boat sitting

The switch panel is not required for this with Lagoons. To empty the tanks into the sea while underway, just open the seacocks (parallel to the though hull fittings) and gravity will empty the tanks....

Re: wiring diagram for main switchboard.

Our deck wash pump did come with the boat, installed by Lagoon. It has an separat extra switch. Not at the main switch board.

Re: 45' Leopard Catamaran Delta anchor power set rpms

You are misinterpreting what I wrote. For example, all anchorages are not usable where there is only a thin layer of sand on rocks, if very good hold is necessary. Except for the anchor hammered in...

Re: 45' Leopard Catamaran Delta anchor power set rpms

Do you say:

- There is no reason to check the anchor's hold with this amount of power?

- I should think seriously about changing the anchor because it holds at 2000rpm and more with 2x 56 hp...

Re: 45' Leopard Catamaran Delta anchor power set rpms

Unfortunately, I also only have experience values. Cat same length, 2 x 56hp, folding props, same anchor (55lb Delta).
Above 1500 rpm it can happen that you pull the anchor away in mud, or for...

Re: Alternator burn out charging lithium

Yes. What I meant was: in the Victron "Test" 1:1 pulley.

In real life in a car or a boat it is 1:3 or 1:5 (and more), so the rpm of the alternator are normaly much faster as in the "test" and the...

Re: Alternator burn out charging lithium

Dear Hermia II
You know: It depends. Of course, a reconfiguration of the charging technology may be necessary. May be, in your case it is a must. A 75A alterntor seems actually very small for your...

Re: Alternator burn out charging lithium

The video from Victron makes one very skeptical as to why this company needs to do this. The test setup is specifically designed to smoke the alternator. The alternator is run at a typical engine...

Tension of leeward shrouds

Dear catamaran sailors
I already asked this question in a subforum, but unfortunately no one answered, so I'll try again here. It is explicitly addressed to catamaran sailors - for a monohull that...

Re: Broken bulkheads

How loose are your leewards shrouds at half wind. Especially on masts with only one single shroud each side.

How worrying is a leeward shroud that is as loose as Parley's?

Isn't it normal that...

Re: Alternator with LFP: How to calculate current?

The super small resistance given in the specifications of LFP cells (EVE, Lishen, CATL) is an AC impedanz at 1Khz (at 1C? can't remember) of an cell with 3.3V.

I don't know what that says about...

Re: Alternator with LFP: How to calculate current?

evm1024, your test results will be very welcome!

I would find it interesting to see how the charge current behaves with a CV 14 or 14.2V, because then one could learn how big an alternator would...

Re: Alternator with LFP: How to calculate current?

You are all helpful, thank you!

Actually, I would be interested to know the maximum charge current that flows when the cells are at 3.2V (12.8V) or 3.3V (13.2V) and the charger is at a...

Re: Alternator with LFP: How to calculate current?

How big is your battery bank and charger? Which cells? Some Victrons allow you to adjust the charging voltage. If the charger is capable of more than 100A or the battery is not too big, it would be...

The forums are in german and you need to have a log in. I know this argument, so I am interested in more reports from the practice.

But really, I'm not interested in the discussion of alternator...

Re: Alternator with LFP: How to calculate current?

This is what has been written in various forum posts.... From people who reported, they have read that on their measuring equipment. Maybe 80A delivered from an 90A rated compact alternator.
