Just boat first sailboat and moving her from Miami to Texas...

Hello -

I just made a deal to purchase a 1984 O'Day 34 from a lovely couple in the Miami area who had been living aboard her for the past few years. About to undertake the adventure of bringing her back to Kemah, TX. The majority of my experience has been bareboating in the BVI/USVI for up to a month at a time, so this will be an entirely new adventure and one that definitely pushes me way out of my comfort zone...

Anyhow, I now look forward to diving into the rabbit holes here for good info and advice on the passage (which I intend to be mostly a coast hugging route). Would love to hear from anyone who has made the trip in a similarly sized monohull, or heck even just in general.

Thanks!!

You can ICW almost all the way to Kemah but that will take 3+ weeks. Depending on Air height you may need to go outside in FL panhandle. I brought my Catalina 470 straight across from Miami but had two other crew. That was 7 days, though could be less if you have good weather/winds.

I love how you put: Just "boat" my first sailboat... instead of "bought" as the title of your thread.

If it was unconscious, it shows clearly how much you've embraced your new love!

Congratulations! Have a lovely journey to Kemah.
