Re: Dreams have become Real Life

Awesome. The boat and the 510. I had a 72 wagon handed down from mom. A very good friend had a 71 510 which raced some that was soooo cool. Decades ago...

I'm like crying because I have to sell our 510
I've built 3 Datsun 510's, two 69's, and one '72. This was the one is for me, did one with my son for him, and one for my wife. Mine has been a long project, delayed for son's college days, life budgeting challenges. I've just got mine on the road after 7 years! Now, I get a few months to enjoy as my daily driver, before selling. We talked about storing the 510, son can drive once a month to keep everything in order, but the $200/mos for 3-5 years before landing back in SoCal, will be an added expense we don't need.
I've had 3 of these. They're called Datsun 1600's here. Great handling cars. Used for rallying. I recently saw one for sale here for $35,000..... and it SOLD. Just checked and there's one listed for $55,000 now. Guess they've increased in value over last couple of years.

OK, so I was thinking about it... I don't think you should give up that 510 passion. As beautiful as that 510 is I think your heart is really in that, and it would be a mistake to leave it behind. Look I've never been to the Med but maybe you could find a nice little place in Greece or somewhere to call a home base and keep the 510 there to cruise around Europe in? Or, I don't know, wrap it up in cosmoline or something and keep it in a friend's garage somewhere? What you do to your 510s is what I wish I could do to my old classic (boat)! I am sure your new boat will become a really enjoyable new venture, but I am betting working in a shop, beautifying those fun classics, is also, maybe primarily, a place where you really feel happy. I bet there's a way to not have to choose between one or the other. Just a thought.

Yes sir, know about the 1600's, if I'm not mistaken, only had 4 door models imported for you guys. I bought my complete rubber kit from Datsport, in your neck of the woods. He has way better rubber quality then the stuff from Malaysia or China. Cheers!

The $55,000 has 2 doors and an 1800 engine. Maybe came from Japan as an import later in it's life, I'm not an expert in these things.

The reason the selling price was so high, the L18 or 1800cc was a model that was called a Bluebird SSS, triple S, only sold originally in Japan, and was their production model. The USA version was the, Datsun 510 with the L16 or 1600cc, like the Aussie version too. The triple S motor had dual carburetors, from the factory. So, someone bought the car in Japan and shipped it to your country. Would be a very rare car in your country or mine.

Thanks for the enlightenment. Checked it again, it's the Bluebird SSS, like new and 2 owners, all the paperwork etc, low kms. Bit like buying art I guess.
