Water logged fibreglass ?

Hello from Gulf Coast USA....I have a question. If an all fiberglass sailboat (no wood laminate) is halfway submerged in fresh water for ten years...could it be salvaged and used. ( I know it would take a lot of elbow grease, but it would be a freebie.)

Re: Water logged fibreglass ?

The fiberglass MIGHT be ok. Anything else would likely be a total loss.

Remember before you go any further: The hull of the boat represents only about 10% of the cost of the build. So if you get the hull for FREE, you have only saved 10% of the cost of the boat.

What you propose is a slow and painful way to the poorhouse, and you are highly unlikely to end up with a useful boat at the end of it.

If you want a sailboat to actually go sailing in, buy a boat that is ready to sail. If your hobby is not sailing, but boat restoration, then sure, get a hulk and rebuild it. Do not expect to save money, or get out on the water any time soon.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, down.
NO!
Boats like that are among the most expensive projects possible.

Nice bit of tough love, there, Gord! Way to go.

Now Down, it's up to you to *listen* to this very good advice, 'cause boy does Gord know his sh*t!

Run away! (From that "freebie-which-is-not-freebie" boat - not Gord.)

Warmly,

Before we all condemn this potential project let’s find out what it is? There is that 0.1% chance that she might be worth saving.......
Cheers
